All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Panhandle Cemetery--Panhandle TX PANHANDLE - Henry Max Smith, 79, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Matsler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Smith was born May 12, 1924, in Rush Springs, Okla. He had been a Panhandle resident since 1992. He was a retired captain in the Army, serving in World War II and the Korean conflict. He married Mildred Bentley on Nov. 22, 1947, in Fort Belvoir, Va. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Panhandle, serving on the board of trustees and was superintendent of Sunday school. He was a member of VFW Post No. 6972, 55+ Club and was a volunteer reader at Panhandle elementary schools. He was preceded in death by his wife in May 1999. Survivors include two sons, Duane Smith and wife, Amy, of Panhandle and Kenneth Smith and wife, Patsy, of Mancos, Colo.; three brothers, Stanley Smith of Rush Springs, Okla., Raymond Smith of Albuquerque, N.M., and Gene Smith of Kallispell, Mont.; a sister, Nadine Anderson of Gresham, Ore.; and six grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Kelley Smith, Clayton Smith, Roy Bob Smith, John Henry Smith and Brandie Smith. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, Box 549, Panhandle, TX 79068.
