SHANNON - PIONEER RESIDENT OF VERDEN The Verden News March 3, 1944 JAMES SHANNON SERVICES HELD TUESDAY EVENING James Shannon, a pioneer resident of Verden, died suddenly following a heart attack on the street Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services for Mr. Shannon were conducted at the Methodist church at 1:30 p. m. Thursday with Rev F. L. Giles of Sulphur officiating. The Hansen Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery. Casket bearers were Claud Britton of Anadarko, J. W. Hullett, Frank Osborne, Andrew Schlitt, Frank Abbott and Claud Roper. The music "No Night There," "Never Grow Old" and "In The Garden" was furnished by Mrs. J. N. Kern and Mrs. C. W. Hamill with Mrs. F. G. Ransbarger accompanist. James V. Shannon was born August 29, 1877 in Georgia and died at 4:00 p. m. February 29 at the age of 66 years and six months. He joined the Methodist church in Georgia at the age of twelve. He moved from Georgia to Moody, Texas in 1896 and from there to a farm near Verden in 1898. He worked for a number of years as head of the gin repair crew for the Chickasha Cotton Oil Company. He lived with his cousin, Mrs. Sherman Hostick and family the past several years. Surviving members of the family include three sisters, Mrs. Lindsay Hollis of Whitesburg, Ga., Mrs. W. W. Estes of Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Beatrice Robert of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Q. V. Shannon of Fairburn, Ga. and Tom Fritdell of Douglasville, Ga.
