P. Simmons, age 87, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clint Wasson, near Norge. Melmath P. Simmons was born in Alabama, February 7, 1851, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Wasson at Norge, Oklahoma, June 8, 1938 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 1 day. He grew to young manhood in Alabama, married in 1871 to Elizabeth Brooks and to this union was born 4 children, 3 girls and one boy, Billy Simmons of Okmulgee, now. Mrs. Margaret Wasson of Norge, Lenora Murrah and Mary Simmons preceded him in death quite a few years ago. Mr. Simmons moved to West Texas after leaving Alabama and later to Oklahoma before statehood. His wife passed away in Verden, January 24, 1934. He leaves to mourn his departure one son, Billy of Okmulgee, one daughter, Margaret of Norge, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Rev. Haley of Chickasha officiated and a double duet, composed of Mrs. J. N. Kern, Miss Maria Protzman, Mrs. C. W. Hamill and Mrs. Harry Dodson, with Mrs. I. H. Bilbrey at the piano, sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Sweet By and By" and "Beautiful Isle." Interment was made in the Verden cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge. Out of town people who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wasson and children, Mr. and Mrs. George Murrah and Judge Murrah of Oklahoma City. Submitted by Sandi Carter
