Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Pat Clark, reader, and Dale Miller will give the eulogy. Mr. Simmons was born in Rush Springs, Okla. He moved to Amarillo in 1963 from Wellington. He and his son, Jim, owned and operated Simmons Ditching Inc. for 20 years. He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientists. He married Georgia Underwood in 1952 at Hollis, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Landry and husband, John, of Amarillo; a son, Jim Simmons and wife, Judy, of Amarillo; his mother, Etta Simmons of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Mae Rawson and Thelma Solomon, both of Oklahoma City, and Bonnie Flemming of Houston; two brothers, Rondle Simmons and Alvin Simmons, both of Oklahoma City; four granddaughters, Jancee Simmons, Jandy Furman, Jamie Peirce and Jody Julian, all of Amarillo; two grandsons, Jarrod Simmons and John Simmons, both of Amarillo; and two great-granddaughters, Payton and Hannah, both of Amarillo.
