February 2002 Bernice "Babe" Clara Sawyer Funeral service for Bernice Clara Sawyer, 89, of Ninnekah, will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, with Esten Leonard officiating. Bernice Clara Sawyer was born March 19, 1912, in Pampa, Texas, the daughter of Barney C. Priest and Nola May Gibson Priest. She died Saturday, February 23, 2002, at her home in Ninnekah. Bernice grew up in the Pampa area attending Pampa public schools. She married Kenneth A. Sawyar in Amarillo, Texas, in March of 1929. Bernice and Kenneth moved from Lefors, Texas, to the Ninnekah area in 1984. During her younger years she enjoyed spending time in her garden and oil painting. Bernice spent most of her life as a homemaker; she was a wonderful cook and enjoyed the time that she got to spend with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her positive attitude, her sweet and wonderful personality and the smile that she always had on her face. Bernice was preceded in death be both parents, two brothers, four sisters, one grandchild, one great grandchild, and her husband, Kenneth A. Sawyer. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Joni Priest, of Belfair, Washington; one sister-in-law, Ester Priest, of Washington; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Tom Landrum, of Ninnekah; one son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Eddie May Sawyer, of Lefors, Texas; two grandsons and their spouses, Jim and Kathy Dowd, of White Deer, Texas, and Barney and Susie Sawyer, of Lefors, Texas; three granddaughters and their spouses, Evelyn and Billy Caples, of Ninnekah, Jeanie and Lee Piekarski, of Millford, Ohio, and Joy Bernice and Johnny Regan, of San Antonio, Texas; eleven great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
