All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Rose Hill Cemetery--Chickasha OK The Chickasha Express-Star 9 January 2005 MATTIE LOU SHERWOOD Funeral service for Mattie Lou Sherwood, 97, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church, Chickasha. Mattie Lou Hayhurst Graves Sherwood was born August 6, 1907, in Grayson County, Texas, the daughter of Joseph Warren Hayhurst and Lillie Maud (O'Neal) Hayhurst, and died Thursday, January 6, 2005, in Chickasha. She married Jim Graves on May 26, 1936, in Lovington, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1960. Mattie Lou married Buford Sherwood on June 30, 1974, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1987. Mattie Lou came to Ninnekah in 1917 from Texas. She attended UCO at Edmond and OCW in Chickasha, graduating in 1934. Mattie Lou attended graduate school at Texas Tech in Lubbock. She taught at Andrews and Brownfield, Texas. Mattie operated the Jim Graves Jewelry Store in Seminole and retired in 1960. She returned to Ninnekah in 1965 and moved to Chickasha in 1980. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chickasha. Mattie Lou was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Warner Hayhurst and Marlin Hayhurst; and 1 son, Jerry Don Graves, on October 7, 1994. Survivors include: 1 son, Ernie Graves, of Chesapeake Bay, Virginia; 2 daughters, Carolyn Jane Coatney, of Big Springs, Texas, June Holder, of Yukon, Oklahoma; 3 grandsons and 7 granddaughters; 6 great grandchildren.
