Thompson, the son of Buford and Edith Thompson, was born on March 26, 1944, in Chickasha. He died on April 9, 2003, in Oklahoma City. Interment will be held in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 13 April 2003 RONALD LEE THOMPSON Funeral service for Ronald Lee Thompson, age 59 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Chickasha, Oklahoma, was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Jim Sheerer officiated. Ronald Lee Thompson, the son of Buford and Edith Thompson, was born on March 26, 1944, in Chickasha. He died on April 9, 2003, in Oklahoma City. At the age of 18, Ronald entered the reserves for five years before going on active duty for three years in Germany. While stationed in Germany, he obtained training as a helicopter motor repairman. Ronald was sent to Vietnam in 1968 before returning to Germany to finish his career in the United States Army. He received many rewards and accolades for his service as he rose to staff sergeant. In March of 1971, he became employed by the Transient Alert Branch at Tinker Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic. After twenty-six years of faithful civil service he accepted their offer of early retirement in 1993. He did various jobs after retirement including carpentry and lock smithing. Ronald enjoyed square dancing, hunting and fishing, camping, and collecting model cars. Ronald was a member of the NRA, Disabled Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Oklahoma Sheriff's Association. Being well read he could converse on various topics and after you got past his quiet side, he was always joking. Ronald was a loving husband, wonderful son, and outstanding brother. He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Sandra Woodriff Thompson. Survivors include: Wife: Mary L. Thompson; Stepchildren: Athena Copeland, Derek & Wife, Tiffany Copeland, Kim & Husband, Brian Boling, & Justin Copeland; Mother: Edith Dowdy; Sister: Sharon Davis & her children, Christopher L. Davis & Stephanie Kutivan; Sister: Loretta Soward & her children, Brandy Marie Hudson, Lonny Sharpe, Justin Sharpe, Ashlee Whitlow, Paul Whitlow, & Jordan Whitlow; Sister: Caroline & Cecil Sims & her children, Michael Thompson, Bridget Rooker, & Brittany Rooker; Sister: Trudy & Pat Schultz & her children, Trisha & Amy Schultz; Uncle & Aunt: M. D. & Mary Beth Hoover; Aunt: Audrey Thompson; Two Grandchildren; Many Loving Friends & Extended Family. Interment was in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
