Lertie Lucille Thomas was born to earthly life on August 20, 1907, and to eternal life on March 15, 2003. She was 95 years old. She was one of 10 children born to Azri and Lenora (Smith) Thompson in Daisy, Oklahoma. She married Albert Van Buren Thomas on August 4, 1924. She is preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, her husband, and a son, Dwain Thomas. Lertie lived in the Chickasha-Ninnekah-Agawam area most of her life, where she raised two children with gentle love. She was living at Christian Care Retirement Village at the time of her death. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and Easter Star. Lertie spent her life giving her faith, love and support to her family, friends, neighbors, and Church. Lertie was the oldest daughter and, as tradition seems to dictate, as well as her own nature, she was always the caregiver. When someone was sick, she was there to help. When the G.I.'s at the USO needed to cope with war, she was there, too. Survivors include: 1 sister: Bobbie Jean Williams of Yuba City, California; 1 daughter: Louise Darnold of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law: June Thomas of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; sister-in- law: Bessie Thomas of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, many great, great grandchildren; 2 nephews: Weldon Thompson of Ardmore, Randy Williams of Sacramento, California; 2 nieces: Connie Williams of Yuba City, California, Sharon Clark of Tuttle, Oklahoma. Interment will be in the Ninnekah Cemetery under direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
