All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 5 September 2004 GENE PAUL TOWNLEY Gene Paul Townley was born June 8, 1941, in Chickasha, and died Saturday, August 14, 2004, in Wagoner, Oklahoma, of cancer complications. Gene had been in a nursing home in Wagoner since January 2004. Gene is the son of the late Ernestine Doss Townley and the late Paul Townley. Local grandparents were the late Roy and Jewell Doss of Ninnekah. Gene grew up in Chickasha and attended Chickasha Public Schools. Gene learned the drywall trade at an early age. Gene was an enthusiastic participant in hot rod racing and became involved at the age of seventeen. He earned recognition in numerous races. He was the originator of "The Big Gene Engine Diaper." National Hot Rod Association is going to dedicate a race this fall in memory of Gene. They are also going to do a tribute to him in their magazine. Gene became acquainted with a teenage boy in Wagoner that has been in a wheelchair all of his life. This boy did not have a motorized wheelchair, and Gene told his wife that when he died, he wanted his scooter to be given to this boy. Gene is survived by his wife, Glenna, and three children, Timmy, Kimberly, and Jeana, and one grandson, Nate. He is also survived by one brother, Michael Townley, and two sisters, Jewell Jordan Smith of Newalla, and Sandra Townley Johnson of Chickasha.
