Farmer is Killed in a Runaway Accident Fred Voigt Succumbs to Injuries Received Tuesday Morning When Team Ran Away Fred Voigt, a German farmer living southeast of town, was fatally hurt Tuesday morning by being thrown violently from the wagon when his team ran away as he was driving into town. The accident was caused by the wagon tongue coming out of the breast yoke, as he was crossing the railroad track at south crossing. The frientened team ran down the hill and up the next, and just opposite J.C. Cobb's barn the end of the wagon tongue stuck in the ground, which threw the wagon high in the air and the unfortunate occupant was landed on his head and shoulders with terrible force. With the front gear of the wagon, the team went on until they were freed by a collision with a telephone pole. The injured man was found unconscious and brought to the Rexall Store where he was given attention by Dr. Little. On examination his injuries were found to consist of a badly broken shoulder, broken ribs and fatal internal bruising. On advice of the physician he was removed to El Reno hospital where he could be cared for properly. A message was received yesterday morning from the hospital that Mr. Voigt had died at 11 o'clock Wednesday night. Mr. Voigt was a widower and leaves several grown sons who were with him on the farm. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
