He was the 7th child born to Charlie and Frances Venable on Feb. 19, 1936, in Chickasha, OK. He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1954 and joined the U.S. Air Force. He served 21 years with the Air Force with the Strategic Air Command, flying in EC 135 airplanes, working with radio communications. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross medal that is awarded for heroism and meritorious service. He flew 400 combat missions and received patches for these missions. He served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. Jerry is survived by his wife Lois of 40 years; 3 sons: Charles F., of Ostrander, Ohio, Robert L., of Greeley, Colo., and William G., of Salina; 1 daughter, Geri Ann Venable, of Springfield, MO; 3 sisters: Lorraine Franks and Ada Mae Mayo, both of Chickasha, and Carol Uffen, of Del City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Frances Venable, sisters Bernadine Elliott and Betty Bob Venable, and 1 brother, Bill Venable. Memorial services were held in Salina, and burial services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha, on Friday, June 7, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Ryan Mortuary, 137 8th, Salina, KS. Memorial donations may be made to the Jerry L. Venable memorial fund.
