His nurses couldn't resist nicknaming him "Pepper." Against his mother's best efforts the name stuck. Pepper graduated from Chickasha High School where he loved playing football. He fell in love with and married his high school sweetheart Shirley Sparks. Pepper and Shirley began their adventure together traveling state to state building gasoline plants and having babies. Pepper acquired many hobbies over the years: scuba diving, fishing, hunting, woodworking, painting, cooking and coaching his sons' teams. He was an avid Sooner football fan and he loved Chevy trucks and his big screen TV. When their oldest son began high school it was time to settle down so, Tuttle it was! Pepper gave up the gasoline business and became a commercial construction superintendent. As the years passed his passions changed to nice weekends at Lake Eufala, doing his artwork and playing with his grandchildren. He got a twinkle in his eye every time he saw his children. Pepper was preceded in death by his mother Renda Vandever and his son David Wayne Vandever. His legacy will live on in the lives of his family: wife, Shirley Vandever of Blanchard; father, Lloyd (Bill) Vandever of Blanchard; sister and brother-in-law, Syndi and LeRoy Charik of Tuttle; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Frank Gallagher of San Antonio, Texas; son, John Vandever of Tuttle; daughters-in-law, Shanna Vandever of Blanchard and Trisha Vandever of Tuttle; 12 grandchildren, David Scott, Kevin Wayne and Emma Louise Vandever of Blanchard, Miriah Dawn, Stony Brook and Dalton Gage Clemons of Broken Arrow, Jonathan Briar, Lane Garrett and Morgan Lynne Vandever of Tuttle, Colt Wayne, Sarah Nicole and Hunter Gage of San Antonio, Texas.
