WHITENER Funeral services for Velma C. Whitener, 87, of Chickasha, Okla., are pending with Ferguson Funeral Home. Velma C. Whitener was born Feb. 1, 1917, and died on Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Chickasha. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 22 August 2004 VELMA C. WHITENER Funeral services for Velma C. Whitener, 87, of Chickasha, will be held Monday, August 23, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, with Jim Shearer officiating. Velma C. Whitener was born February 1, 1917, in Amber, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert and Arie McClain. She died Friday, August 20, 2004, in Chickasha. Velma grew up in the Ninnekah area. She attended many of the rural schools in the Grady County area. Velma married Gilbert Whitener, January 6, 1936. They made their home in Ninnekah, Oklahoma, where they owned and operated the family farm. They were married for 37 wonderful years, before he preceded her in death on April 19, 1973. On December 3, 1976, Velma married Bill Ellis. They were married for 10 years. She worked on the family farm and had been employed as a sales clerk at McClellans Five & Dime Store, in Chickasha. Velma was a member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ Church. She was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Grady McClain, one sister, Luethel Freeman, and husband Gilbert Whitener. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law; Wayne and Zoe Whitener, Dwain and Carolyun Whitener, all of Oklahoma City and Larry and Vickie Whitener, of Canon City, Colorado; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Ninnekah Cemetery, under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
