Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for purposes other than stated above must obtain the written consent of the file contributor. ====================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 30 April 2001 Clarence Alexander Welchel Graveside funeral service for Clarence Alexander Welchel, age 78, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2001, in Fairlawn Cemetery. Clarence Alexander Welchel was born on July 20, 1922, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, the son of Frank Welchel and Mamie Maybell Brown Welchel. He died on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in Chickasha. Clarence moved to Chickasha at an early age. He grew up and lived in Chickasha all of his life. He married Dorothy Lee Baker in 1972 in Chickasha. Clarence worked at the OSU Extension Experimental Farm for several years. Prior to this, he did carpentry and farm work for many years. In later years, he worked for the City of Chickasha in the water department. He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. Clarence served in Rhineland and in Belgium where he was wounded in action. He took part in the invasion on Normandy. Clarence was a decorated war veteran with many medals including the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Houston Welchel, Thurman Welchel and V.O. Welchel, and two sisters, Ruby Smith and Bernice Shiplet. His wife, Dorothy, preceded him in death on February 19, 1994, and one daughter, Ellen "Judy" Taylor, preceded him in death in 1989. Survivors include son, Tommy Welchel of Yukon; daughter, Brenda Williams of Price, Texas; son, Alex Welchel of Dallas, Texas; son, Terry Welchel of Crossett, Arkansas; son, Ricky Welchel of Henderson, Texas; daughter, Patsy Welchel of Tatum, Texas; daughter, Charlena Welchel of Tatum, Texas; sister, Opal Davis of Chickasha; sister, Lorene Webb of Chickasha; sister, Omega Mosley of Chickasha; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
