They were identified as: Roy A. Cobb, 37, and Wesley Willis Wilkerson, 36, both of Oklahoma City. (Wesley was born in Ireton, Grady Co.) Jack Davis and O.M. Harned, Chickasha, who were driving along the Alex highway enroute to Falls Creek, saw the plane as it crashed at the north edge of Alex between 11:20 and 11:30 in the morning. Mr. Davis said that they were three-quarters of a mile from the plane and it looked like the ship was in trouble, the plane circled twice and landed. They could not actually see the plane land because sunflowers were in the way. The Chickasha men were within a quarter of a mile of the plane when it took off. Mr. Davis stated that the plane probably climbed to 150 to 200 feet and then went over backwards and nose-dived into the ground. They could not see the plane go down the last 20 feet because a gin was in their path of vision. Ben Hickman, Chickasha Flying field manager, said that the airplane did not register at the Chickasha field and he was sure that it had not landed at the field any time during the morning. A member of the aviation club stated that the two Oklahoma City pilots did not attend the breakfast Sunday morning at the Chickasha Municipal airport for flyers of the neighboring towns. They were rushed to Chickasha but Cobb died on the hospital emergency table 15 minutes later and Wilkerson was dead on arrival.
