Wesner, 84, was born the son of John and Lora Wesner on April 1, 1925, near Foss, Oklahoma, the fourth of five children. He passed away on December 14, 2009, in Chickasha. He attended school in Cheyenne, Oklahoma and became an Eagle Scout at age 15. On Christmas Eve 1942, at age 17, he boarded a train and joined the United States Navy, where he served for 38 months aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Cowell, in the Pacific Theater in WWII as a radio operator. After the war he married Lawanda McWhorter and began his career with Public Service of Oklahoma. He worked for PSO in Chickasha and Tulsa, and then later transferred to the parent company, Central and Southwest Corporation in Dallas, Texas, where he worked as Vice-President of Benefits and Insurance. After 34 years, he retired and moved back to Chickasha; then in 1987, he married Margaret Owen King and moved to Tulsa. Leon was a member of the Tulsa First United Methodist Church and the Joyner Sunday School Class! . For 11 years he worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross delivering blood across the entire state of Oklahoma. Leon was a supporter of the Cheyenne Educational Foundation. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Brian, Dale and Donovan; sister, Irene; his first wife, Lawanda McWhorter Wesner, an infant son, Richard Kent. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Charlotte Badgett, of Chickasha; granddaughter, Julie Badgett Sinn and husband Tim of Edmond; two great-grandchildren; Andrew and Luke Sinn; many nephews, mieces and cousins. Cremation will follow services. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2009, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
