She was in no pain or distress when she reached the end of a twelve year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She and her twin sister, Marguerite, were born in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Frank and Myrtle Bowles McCartor. She was raised on the family farm eight miles south of Shattuck, in Ellis, with two more sisters, Willa and Leonore. Her parents were recognized by the state of Oklahoma as a master farmer and master farmer homemaker, for the development of their original homestead into one of the area's outstanding family farms. All four girls were extremely musical and sang at church and social events most of their lives. Lois was a clarinetist, Marguerite was a cellist, and all four girls played the piano. Lois continued to play electric organ past her 90th birthday. She completed a two-year teaching certificate and taught in a one room rural school. In 1934 she married Everett Wilcox who achieved great success as a high school band director in Wewoka, Oklahoma. The Wewoka band won state, regional and national honors during his eleven years as their director. The family moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1946 to open a music store and school business, which was just getting established when Everett was killed in the crash of a light plane in 1947. About forty years later, he was posthumously made a member of the Oklahoma Music Educators Hall of Fame. Lois was always extremely active, and when her son, David graduated from high school and left for the University of Michigan, she returned to Oklahoma State University and completed her own college degree in Home Economics. She became a traveling county agent, and then was made a consultant for the state of Oklahoma in all phases of home economics, with a specialty of interior design. She completely redecorated the Governor's mansion for one of its residents. In 1959 she married Victor Zobisch and they led a busy life together for forty years managing the Zobisch Grain Company, traveling, and being actively involved in their church in Geary, Oklahoma. Lois was active in P.E.O for over 50 years and in Eastern Star for 40. Victor died one day short of his 90th birthday, and for the past 3 years, Lois has lived in Morgantown, close to her son's West Virginia University band concerts, and thoroughly enjoyed her great grandchildren. She was able to spend time with most of her grandchildren and great grandchildren only days before her passing.
