All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 9 January 2004 JANE CATHERINE ZERGER Jane Catherine Zerger was born October 19, 1921, in Webster, Kansas, to Clell and Edith (Silvers) Stice. She passed from this life Saturday evening January 3, 2004, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 14 days. She grew up in Webster, Kansas, and graduated from Webster High School. On October 17, 1942, she and Waldo Zerger were married at Ft. Gruber, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Waldo had been her typing teacher. After his discharge from the military in 1945, they moved to Anadarko, where he managed the Kaufman Farm Electric Company for his uncle. He and Jane bought the store and operated the Zerger Appliance and Electric Store, where she was the bookkeeper for many years. In 1970 Jane went to work as secretary of the Anadarko Chamber of Commerce. In 1972 she was appointed manager of the Chamber; and held that position until she resigned October 1, 1975. She then went to work as secretary and receptionist for Smith Funeral Home, and held that position until she resigned October 1, 1975. She then went to work as secretary and receptionist for Smith Funeral Home, and held that position until Waldo sold the store. They then began spending their winters in Weslaco, Texas, and enjoyed many years there, where they played bridge and belonged to a ballroom dance club. She was a member of P.E.O. for over 60 years. She belonged to the First Christian Church, where she played the organ, and organized the first Junior Choir. She was an excellent seamstress. She moved to Sterling House in Chickasha over 2 years ago, and had been at Grace Living Center for the last few months. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, who died June 16, 2000. Survivors include her daughter, Janie McElheney and her husband Bill of Klosterneuburg, Austria; two sons, Waldo Zerger, Jr., and wife Frances of Westerville, Ohio, and Doug Zerger and wife, Debi of Anadarko; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, Ethan Zerger of Yukon; one sister, other relatives, and many loving friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at the First Christian Church with burial to follow in Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home.
