The event was hosted by their children and grandchildren: Tracy and Scott Williford, Kaylynn, Kollin, and Kyra, of Bethany, Okla., Gregory and Paige Elliott, Ian and Abigail, of Chickasha, Okla., and Corry and Keri Elliott, Tristan, Logan, and Ethan, of Plano, Texas. On Oct. 17, 1964, Donald Ray Elliott and Nevona Carolynn Lynn, were united in marriage at the First Assembly of God Church, then located at Fifth and Colorado, Chickasha. After a wedding trip to Winslow, Ark., the couple returned to Chickasha and began their lives together at 555 1/2 S. 11th Street. Don was employed by Standley Office Machines, 521 Chickasha Avenue, as a typewriter technician, and Carolynn was a homemaker. In March 1965, they moved into their first home, located at 627 Cranton Drive, and resided there for 11 years. This is the home where they welcomed their three precious children into their lives. They had one daughter, Tracy Lynn, and two sons, Gregory Donald and Corry Ray. The family moved to the Amber area in 1976, and the children became enthusiastic participants in the activities of the Amber-Pocasset School system. All three children excelled academically and athletically, graduating with honors from Am-Po High School between 1984 to 1990. Don and Carolynn began their lives together as active members of First Assembly of God Church and made a commitment to be obedient to God, faithful to each other, and dedicated to the task of raising each of their children to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As a family, their church attendance and activities were very important and consistent parts of their lives. Don and his sons were active in the Royal Ranger Program for boys, From 1969 to about 1990, Don served as an outpost commander and as Senior Commander. During that time, each of his sons, Greg, in 1986, and Corry, in 1990, received the Gold Medal of Achievement, the highest honor in the program for boys at First Assembly. For more than 11 years, Carolynn served as a leader and as the coordinator for the Missionette Program for girls. In 1980, her daughter, Tracy, completed the requirements and was the first Honor Star to be crowned in ceremony at First Assembly. From 1989 to 1995, their children graduated from college and are all enjoying successful careers. Each child is happily married within their faith and together with their mates are raising their children as active members of their own churches. After 33 years of employment in the family business, Don retired from Standley’s and joyfully spends his time remodeling their home or doing volunteer work as a plumber, tile layer, electrician, cook or whatever the need, for his family, business, church, or friends. He works as a precinct official for the Grady County Election Board and as a Festival of Light volunteer, but still enjoys an occasional round of golf with his sons or a friend and recently joined his son, Greg, and the Royal Rangers on a backpacking trip in Arkansas. Carolynn was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom for her children until they were grown and living their own lives. She went to college for the first time at the age of 46 years and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nutritional sciences in May of 2001. She is a registered dietitian and is currently the nutrition consultant at her family’s business. Lynn Natural Health Food Center. Don and Carolynn thoroughly enjoy being Poppy and Nana to their eight little grandchildren, the “joys” of their lives, and carefully make plans that include regular visits with their wonderful children and grandchildren. Throughout these remarkable 40 years of marriage, God has continually been faithful to their family, blessing them beyond measure. They are grateful to God for allowing them to share with each other and their loved ones, 40 of the happiest years of their lives. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
