All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 14 August 2005 SHEERERS TO CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY Jim Sheerer and Nona Sue Keenon were married August 19, 1955 in Abilene, Texas. Jim grew up in Corsicana, Texas, and graduated from Corsicana High School in 1946. He attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas, for two years and then joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy for four years, three of which were on Guam during the Korean War where he began preaching in the Church of Christ. He returned to Abilene Christian College in 1952 where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. Nona Sue grew up in southeastern Oklahoma and graduated from Atoka High School in 1951. She then attended Abilene Christian College where she and Jim met. She received her Bachelor's degree in 1955 and taught Home Economics at ACC while Jim completed his master's degree. Jim preached at Carbon, Texas, for four years while attending ACC. They then moved to Llano, Texas, where Jim preached for two years. They moved to Austin, Texas, in 1958 where Jim preached for six years at the Brykerwood/Highland Village Church of Christ. In 1964 they moved to Jamestown, New York, where they helped to establish a Church of Christ. They moved to Chickasha in 1966 where Jim preached for 30 years for the Central/Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Since his retirement in 1996, he has continued to preach for various congregations on Sundays. In 2001 he realized a long-time dream where he completed and published a commentary on the entire New Testament. In Chickasha, Jim has been an active member of the Lions Club for 38 years. Nona Sue has been active in HCE (formerly Extention Homemakers) for 36 years. Both have been involved with 4-H for many years. Nona Sue served on the Grady County Fairboard for five years. The sheerers have three daughters: Janis Hagler of San Antonio, Texas, Julie Diepenbrock of Moundridge, Kan., and Jennifer McKnight of Norman. They have seven grandchildren.
