Cummins, who has operated a garage on South Front Street for the past few years, died at Enid Sunday shortly after noon following an operation for appendicitis. He had been at work on Friday but that night he was taken ill and Saturday morning he was taken to Enid. He was operated on that afternoon and it was found that besides the appendicitis he was suffering from a peritonitis due to other disorders. He had been troubled with appendicitis for several years, but his death came as a shock to his friends who like himself, did not realize the extreme seriousness of his condition. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church here Rev. E. F. Gordon of Deer Creek preaching the funeral sermon. He leaves a mother, a wife, three sons and one daughter, to mourn his loss besides a large number of relatives and friends. He has five uncles and seven aunts, most of them living in this community. Interment was in Rosemound cemetery. The pall bearers were all first cousins of the deceased and were Earl Cummins, Wellington; Guy Darland, Ponca City; Lester Darland, Deer Creek; Darrell Prunty, Wellington; Leonard Prunty, Wellington and Wm. Fuss, Medford. The deceased has spent most of his life in Medford, coming here with his parents in 1894. He was thirty-seven years of age when death overtook him. OBITUARY Lester Cummins passed away suddenly at the University hospital in Enid September 2nd, 1923, being taken there the day before by Dr. Rutherford for operation for appendicitis and peritonitis. He was 37 years 6 months and 3 days old. He was born February 27th, 1886 in Cleardale, Kansas coming to Medford with his parents when a little boy in 1894 and lived on the farm until about 13 years ago when they came to town. He married Miss Nelia Thompson of Deer Creek and lived on a farm east of Medford until his father's death three years ago when he moved to his mother's home here to comfort and care for her. He was the only child but leaves a mother, a wife, three little boys, Harold, A. M., and Baby Earl 2 years old and one little girl, Evelyn and many uncles, aunts and cousins, six of whom were pall bearers and also many friends, as was attested by the large crowd which assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to him. He was an honest and conscientious boy always thinking and working for the comfort of his family, and pleasant and jovial. All was done that could be done by loving hands to save him. He passed knowingly down the valley, sweetly bade us "good bye" saying be brave for I am going." Looking at his mother saying "I would like to stay with you longer, but I must go." His mother, wife, and two aunts, Mrs. Fuss and Mrs. Anderson, were at his bedside and saw the good bye on his lips, after his voice was stilled. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. and funeral sermon by Rev.
