EBEL Beloved and honored Daddy, Pop, Pampa, and Great-Pampa, Edward H. Ebel went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 5, 2006. Edward was born on June 24, 1920, in Medford Oklahoma. He was the beloved and only son of Henry and Katie Ebel. Soon after his birth, the family of six moved to California. While living in Sanger, he met and married the love of his life, Youva Lorene Scaggs. They were married in Reno, Nevada in an Assembly of God Church on July 24, 1941, by Reverend Sam Robertson. Edward believed it to be an honor to serve his country with the U.S. Army. He was accepted to officer's candidate school and graduated at the top of his class. He was one of "The Greatest Generation" and proudly served his country during World War II in Germany. He later retired as Captain. He was a member of the Military Officer's Association with the Kings-Tulare Chapter. Edward and his family moved to Lindsay in 1952. There he served as Vice- President of Hercal Corporation, where he farmed approximately 2000 acres for 45 years. His cotton crop of 1989 was named the 'staple standard' by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also grew citrus, apples, walnuts, olives, table grapes, raisins, sugar beets, barley, and black-eye peas. His family fondly remembers riding in the back of his pickup to help pick oranges. Above all, Edward loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved the Bible and raised his children to love and serve the Lord. He was a gentleman who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a peacemaker and a man of true integrity. He established himself as a role model for all those who knew him. His love for the Lord led him to serve his church. Edward was a Deacon at Lindsay First Assembly Church, where he taught the adult Sunday School for 20 years and served on the School Council. He has been a member of Visalia First Assembly Church for 32 years where he proudly served many terms as a Deacon under Reverend E.J. Kumpe. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Katie Ebel; his sisters, Amelia McCoy and Selma Heinrich; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Youva Lorene Ebel.
