All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Hall Brother FH--Corning CA Robert J. Gillaspy Red Bluff Daily News 6 Feb 2007 Beloved Father and Friend. 80 years young. Went home to be with the Lord, January 4, 2007. He departed this world from his home surrounded by family as he wished. He was born at home in Manchester, OK, August 3, 1926. He was the 9th of 10 children born to the union of Robert M. Gillaspy and Elithel G. (White) Gillaspy. He was known to his friends as Bob. He joined the Army in 1943 and was sent over seas where he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. As a result of his injuries, scrapmetal to his knee's, he was sent home and discharged. He was awarded the Purple Heart and several other metals. These were destroyed in a fire in ID (I am making efforts to have these restored to the family). He married Ruth V. Mael on May 29, 1946 in Couer d'Alene, ID. They had two daughters from this union, Ruth (Jeannie) Claunch and Geraldine (Geri) J. Merritt both reside in Corning, CA. Bob worked in the sawmills (Ohio Match and Diamond National in ID. as a debarker. After the marriage ended in divorce he moved to Red Bluff. He went to work for the sawmills, LP and Sierra Pacific. He married Beverly Mael and raised her two children, Trudy Ann Mayfield of Post Falls, ID, and Larry M. Gillaspy of Richmond, CA. After the desolation of that marriage he married Ruth Stephan and helped her raise a daughter and granddaughter. Ruth passed away in about 1993. Bob had to take early retirement for health reasons in about 1985. He was the most honest God fearing Man I have ever know. Although he didn't go to church he had his own relationship with the Lord. He didn't like turmoil and his word was his bond, if he said it he did it. He had a great sense of humor, he loved to pull little gags on the girls at the bank and the waitresses at Perko's, Millcreek and H.T. Buffet. They will remember him with his pepper shaker and the tobassco bottle to hold down the tip. Dad didn't have steps, he loved his children, grandchildren, he loved his family, his dogs (Buddy & Scooter, they are with him now), his tractors and his Oldsmobile's (not necessarily in that order). He was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers, Marion, Arthur, George, and Marvin, sisters, Goldie, and Mildred, grandchildren Tana Ray Gillaspy, Anthoney Scharrp and Randal Martin. Survived by sisters, Ruby Powel of Vacaville, Lillie Morrison of Fresno, Arlene Healey of Modesto, 4 children named above, 20 grandchilden, 35 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren. We would also like to say farewell to Dads wonderful friend and companion of 11 years, Lois Branson. She followed him in her own journey to the Lord three weeks later, January 25, 2007. Dad felt that her son Gordon and his wife Sue Branson were an extension of our family. We will miss her very much. Cremation was handled by Hall Brothers in Corning. Per Dads wishes no services are scheduled at this time. Farewell Dad, we will miss you! Gone from sight, but never forgotten, all our LOVE! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grant County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grant/grant.html
