The building was used for all political, social and religious activities. It was there, on the third of June 1900, that a small group of Baptists formed a church, to be called "The First Baptist Church of Christ", worshipping at Spring Creek. The earliest records have been lost but it is known that one of the earliest pastors was Henry P. Allsup, born in Lincoln County, TN and died in Willow, OK, 20 Dec 1903. He and his wife, Syrilda Jane Hines Allsup are buried in the Spring Creek Cemetery, just across the road from the Church building. Two of their grand- children are also buried there: William Chester Allsup, born and died 28 Jan 1901, son of William Franklin and Docia Olivene Rennels Allsup, and an infant daughter of Don Carlos and Lula Ann Clark Allsup, born and died 4 June 1902. Among the earliest Deacons was James W. Hill. He and his wife, Aura Almeda Riggs Hill, and their youngest daughter, Era May Hill Harvey, all natives of Decatur County, TN, are also buried in the church cemetery. J. W. Hill is listed on the 1899 Tax Roll for Greer County. The church and cemetery are in Beckham County since the division of Greer County in 1907. [Compiled from various sources and family records.]
