In 1830 the Indians camped there. In 1850's the travelers from the Santa Fe Trail who were traveling to Louisianna found the Spring. In the 1870's the Western Cattle Trail used the Springs as a resting place for their cattle and men. About the same time the army built a military road between Ft. Sill and Ft. Elliott and established an early day Stagecoach stand at the Springs. Today there is a huge circle, still visible, where the buffalo soldiers camped while keeping the Peace on the Plains. In this same circle, the Indians, on their journey to the plains of Texas, would stake their tepees.. Neither traveler nor time has erased the traces of the old camp grounds. Today it is a silent symbol of those who passed this way. The spirit of lives past still echo across the virgin lands. You find yourself looking for the pioneers who have lived here, for the vibrations are so strong that they tingling up and down your spine. Very reverantly our feet trod the haloed grounds of our forefathers at Comanche Springs.
