Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Jim Fox, chaplain of Vista Care Hospice, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Akin was born March 29, 1927, in Willow, Okla., and she will be missed by all who knew her. She married Travis Akin on June 1, 1943. Nawana has been called by many names. Her birth family called her Wani, her friends called her Connie, her husband called her Suzi, her children called her Mama and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her Nannie. Nawana was happy with all the names and was her happiest when the family was all together. Nawana's hobbies were painting and crocheting, but her passion was camping and fishing. We're sure God has a special campsite picked out just for her. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Survivors include her husband, Travis Akin of Amarillo; a daughter, Becky Morton and husband Gary of Fort Worth; two sons, Gary Akin and wife Dana and Steve Akin, all of Amarillo; a brother, Don Dowdy of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
