Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Second Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Jones, pastor of Hollywood Road Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Marine Corps. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Chancler was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Mangum, Okla., to Sam and Nancy Bertha Leard Chancler. He was the seventh of 10 children. Mr. Chancler graduated from New Home High School, south of Lubbock. After graduation he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and was a very proud veteran of the Korean War. He married Harriet Jane Kelly Chancler, formerly of Waukegan, Ill., on May 30, 1953, in Los Angeles. They are the proud parents of six children. Mr. Chancler moved to Amarillo in 1962 after residing in other towns when first discharged from the Marines. Jim and Harriet lived primarily in north Amarillo and their children attended Hamlet Elementary, Palo Duro and River Road schools. Jim worked in the floor covering business for many years at Amarillo Floors prior to opening his own business in 1975. A-1 Floors first opened on West Amarillo Boulevard. Mr. and Mrs. Chancler both worked at the business and retired in 1995. More recently the Chancler sons operate the business, now located on Hillside Road near Coulter Street. Jim enjoyed being with family, attending Marine Corps reunions and keeping in contact with family, friends and fellow Marines. Jim and Harriet would travel often. Jim regularly attended local veterans celebrations around town and at the V.A. Hospital. His love for family and country was unmatched. Jim valued hard work, honest effort and a sincere spirit. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Harriet; a brother, Ray Chancler, three sisters, Helen Slaght, Faye Carter and Kathey Renfroe; six children, Susan Chancler Hooker and husband Mark of Amarillo, Karen Chancler of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mark Chancler, Kelly Chancler and wife Bonnie and Jimmy Chancler Jr. and wife Misti, of Amarillo, and Julie Chancler of Kingsville; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home Amarillo Globe-News, June 27, 2006
