Arrangements are by Greer Funeral Home of Mangum and Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Dorrill was a resident of Mangum for more than 75 years. She was born in Doddsville, Miss., on Nov. 16, 1899. She married Stanley Dorrill in 1915 in Mississippi. He preceded her in death. In 1930, she moved to Mangum to be near her brother, Dr. James T. Lowe, and her parents, James R. and Mary Angeline Lowe. In the 1930s, before the advent of nursing homes, Mrs. Dorrill transformed her home into separate apartments in order to take care of the elderly. She cooked wonderful homemade meals for them and cared for them in a loving, compassionate environment. Mrs. Dorrill was a gifted pianist, teaching herself to play "by ear" at the age of 7. She developed and continued playing the piano throughout her life. She played for Sunday school classes at the First Baptist Church at Mangum and regularly played for residents of the nursing home in Mangum. In October 1998, she came to live at the Craig Methodist Retirement Community in Amarillo. She remained a wonderful Christian witness to other residents of the nursing home as well as to the caregivers. Her sweet spirit, courteousness and compassion for others continued throughout her life. Mrs. Dorrill was preceded in death by two sons, Warren Dorril of Mangum, Eulan Dorrill of Altus and a daughter, Virginia Dorill Capps of Amarillo. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Bernice Daniels of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" Dorrill of Mangum; grandchildren, Jim Dorrill of Garland, Janna di'Camillo of Tucson, Linda Boyd of Houston, Jill McDavitt of Garland, Joe Daniels of Myrtle Point, Ore., John Dorrill of Louisiana and Peter and Ginger Sample of Amarillo; nine great-grandchildren, Paul, Scott, Bill, Jamilyn, Autumn, Jolie, Harold, Jeff and John; and seven great-great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Craig Methodist Retirement Community, Windflower Nursing Unit in Amarillo; First Baptist Church in Mangum; or Crown of Texas Hospice in Amarillo.
