All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ Rex McLaughlin Samuel "Rex" McLaughlin Sr., 61, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in River Road Fellowship with Faye Roberts, pastor, and Joe Kirkwood, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. McLaughlin was born in Willow, Okla. He was raised in Panhandle and graduated from Panhandle High School. Rex worked for Howard's Mechanical for many years before starting Mel Mac Plumbing & Co., with his wife and son. He owned and operated the company from 1984 until the time of his death. He married Mel Melot in 1984 at Amarillo. Mr. McLaughlin was a founding member, as well as general contractor, for the buildings of River Road Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his father, L.J. "Buddy" McLaughlin, in 1990; and by his sister, Sue Lanier, in 2000. Survivors include his wife, Mel of Tres Ritos, N.M; a son, Sam R. McLaughlin Jr. of Amarillo; five daughters, Zulieka Welch and Susie King, both of Amarillo, Reba "Duzie" McLaughlin of Penasco, N.M., Kristen Ramirez of Tres Ritos and Holly Price of Waxahachie; his mother, Alice McLaughlin of Panhandle; a brother, Louie McLaughlin of Amarillo; two sisters, Patsy McNeal of Lubbock and Diane Grumbles of Muleshoe; 19 grandchildren; and four "special sons," Mike King, Dean McClure and Tony Roberts, all of Amarillo, and Lanny Ramirez of Tres Ritos. The family suggests memorials be to River Road Fellowship, 503 E. Willow Creek Drive, Amarillo, TX 79108. "Rex also was survived by a large extended family of people who loved the Lord Jesus Christ."
