Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Charles Mendenhall, pastor of Victory Center in Guymon, Okla., officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery with flag detail by American Legion Post No. 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Smith was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Willow, Okla., to Dan and Mary Smith. On Dec. 24, 1949, he married Charlene "Sherry" Bolster who preceded him in death on March 2, 1998. He had been a resident of Stratford most of his life, and was a member of First Christian Church in Stratford. He was owner/operator of Chevron gas station, Golden Spread Implement, Buckle & Bow Shoe Store and Stratford Tire Store and Motorcycle, all located in Stratford. Mr. Smith was co-owner of Shaffer Plough Co. in Pratt, Kan., and owned ranches at Black Mesa, Okla., and in Colorado, Texas and New Mexico. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Nick Cozart, on May 17, 1996. Survivors include a son, Barry Kent Smith and wife Dana of Stratford; a daughter, Tana Pemberton and husband Steve of Stratford; two sisters, Carol Robison of Dallas and Margaret Teakell of Broken Bow; four grandchildren, Neal Smith, Monique Kager, Ramey Cozart and Jaret Pemberton; and six great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second, Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at 1210 N. Chestnut in Stratford.
