   Joe Lee Thomas
   FLOYDADA - Joe Lee "Chief" Thomas, 80, of Crosbyton, a former Floydada
   resident, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997.
   
   Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home
   Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Art Hollingsworth, minister of American
   Indian Christian Fellowship Church in Lubbock, and the Rev. Darwin
   Robinson, minister of Bible Baptist Church in Floydada, officiating.
   Burial will be in Floydada Cemetery.
   
   Mr. Thomas was born in Spencerville, Okla., and attended school there.
   He moved to Floydada in 1976 from Brinkman, Okla. He was a retired
   construction worker and a member of Sethward Baptist Church in
   Plainview.
   
   He was preceded in death by a son, Chesley Thomas, and a daughter,
   Dimple Baird.
   
   Survivors include three sons, Vernon Thomas of Plainview, Jessie
   Thomas of Romulus, Mich., and Carlos Thomas of Germany; six daughters,
   Helen Lipham of Floydada, Ann Odell and Connie Gourdon, both of
   Lubbock, Judy Rhiner of Metter, Ga., Lavon Reid of Garland and Cathy
   Planger of Houston; a brother, Herman Thomas of Jones, Okla.; 32
   grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
