McRee, 1935 I believe this News paper article was friends of my grandmothers I don't think I am related to them. However,I would like the proper family to have this. Funeral Services Held for Mrs. E.G.McRee Monday - Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ for Mrs. E.G. McRee,66,whose untimely demise came as a shock to the entire community,as the seriousness of her condition was not known.The final tribute was paid by Dillard W.THURMAN,former pastor of the Granite Church of Christ, assisted by Hubert Dill,Pastor of the Hobart Church of Christ.Interment was in the City cemetery,with the GISH Funeral Home of Hobart,directing.Mrs.McREE died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday following a three month's illness.She had been confined to her bed for the past two months. Early last week she was taken to an Elk City hospital for treatment,but returned home Wednesday.Doctors did not positively establish the cause of her death. Mrs. Lela MEADOW McREE was born June 25,1869, In Marshall county.Tennessee,and died June 7,1936.She was united in marriage with E.G.McREE August 8,1886.Forty years or more ago she joined the Church of Christ and continued a faithful communicant of that denomination.She was a devoted wife and mother and conscientious to a scruple.In addition to her husband ,Mrs.McREE is survived by two sons, J.Hatten McREE, Chillicothe,Texas,and Monty McREE,Altus; one grandson.Richard Carlyle McREE of Altus;two sisters,Mrs.Clemmie BARRETT,Kansas City,MO.,and Mrs.Ida WATSON,Springfield,Missouri,and a cousin,Mrs. P.J.STACEY,of Granite.She is preceded in death by her parents and one daughter,Mattie,who passed away in 1904 at the age of 14.Mrs.McREE was interred beside the remains of her daughter in the City Cemetery.Mrs.McREE was one of the pioneer mothers of this section,coming here in 1900 from Petersburge,Tenn.The large crowd attending final rites and the beautiful floral offerings that banked the casket,attested the high esteem in which she was held. Pallbearers were:Tillman TERRY,L.E.GOOCH,E.T.SIMS, Preston COOPER,E.C.WOODS and J.F. DILLAHUNTY.Out of town relatives and friends here for the last rites were; Mrs. G.L.HYSMITH,Chillicothe,Texas,mother of Mrs. Hatten McREE,and her daughters,Mrs.Myrtle NICHOLS,Mrs.Stella LEWIS and Mrs. Percy STEVENS;Mr.and Mrs.George West of Oklahoma,City,cousins of Mrs.McREE; Mrs.E.C. FOSTER and daughters,Missos,Ima,Ura,and Helen,Victor WATERS,Roy BRIGGS, Miss Jess NEAL and Miss Lorena BROWNE all of Mangum. There is no other information on this clipping.
