Stevens, retired farmer and rancher of Granite, who died Saturday January 24, 1947 at the Clinton hospital were held Monday at the New Liberty Methodist church with Rev. J.L. Davis at Rev. Murray Echols officiating. Sayre Sun, Sayre, OK 30-Jan-1947 ========= Mr. Stevens, was born November 9, 1878 in Montague county, Texas, homesteaded four miles north of Sweetwater in 1904. He resided in the New Liberty community until 1939 when he moved to a home near Granite. He was married on February 22, 1900 to Sarah Alice Hendershon, at Altus. He was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Hunt of Granite, Mrs. Glady Wells of Hereford, Texas, three sons, Ira Lee Stevens, and Leland C. Stevens, both of Clinton, Leo M. Stevens of Richmond, California, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hullum of Altus and Mrs. Ella Latham of Phoenix, Arizona. Other survivors include a half brother, Bob Cannon, who resides in Texas 12 grandchilkdren and two great- grandchildren. Three sons ane one daughter preceded him in death. Interment was in the Wayland cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with the Sayre Funeral Home, Moore-Allen funeral directors in charge. Funeral services were held for Mr. William D. Stevens Monday January 27, 1947 at the New Liberty Methodist church. Mr. Stevens was one of New Liberty's pioneer settlers. He had homesteaded in the community in 1903 and had lived in this community until 1939 having moved to near Granite where he resided most of the time since.
