Okla. Archives. ************************************************************ Wood "A.L" Wood, 80 died Wednesday at the hospital in Hollis. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Hollis with Rev. David Blakey officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service. He was born July 13, 1922 in Akin, Texas to J.W. and Allie Hooper Wood. He was a carpenter and lived in Harmon County from 1959 until his death. He married Inez Maude Ward on July 28, 1943 in St. Augustine, Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking care of his horses and cattle, going to cattle auctions and estate auctions. He also enjoyed fishing and sharing his catch with others. He served for three years in the United States Army during WWII. He was stationed in Northern France where his services were decorated with the EAME Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and he was also awarded with a Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by his wife Inez of the home; daughters Frances Bennefield and husband Shelton, Joyce Hubanks and husband George, Syble Sanderson and husband Randy, Debra Hillis and husband Bryan, all of Hollis, and Dana Thompkins and husband Eddie of Dodson, Texas; sons Preston Wood of Amarillo, Texas, Ray Wood of Gould, Kenneth Wood and wife Melissa, and Mark Wood and wife Aimee, all of Hollis; sisters Evalynn Loving, Janice Maloney and Hazel Brown; brothers A.J. Wood, Orville Wood and Chester Wood; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Douglas Wood and sister Gladys Loving.
