All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== :: Joyce Ann Harrill Duncan GRUVER - Joyce Ann Harrill Duncan, 89, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Spearman. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Curry, pastor, and the Rev. George Price officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mrs. Duncan was born in McQueen, Okla., on Dec. 4, 1914, to Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Harrill. She married T.T. Duncan, her high school sweetheart, on Sept. 8, 1934. They made their home in Oklahoma before moving to Hansford County in 1942. Joyce was a member of First Baptist Church of Gruver since 1954, where she served in various capacities for more than 50 years. She was the general secretary of the Sunday school and the church hostess for more than 30 years. She will be remembered for her love of the church, sewing for the community and following the Gruver Greyhound teams. She was also a member of Busy Hands Hobby Club and was known for the beautiful beaded Christmas ornaments she gave to her friends. After the death of her husband in 1948, she was both mother and father to their sons. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1948; her parents; a grandson, Richie Todd; two sisters, Bartie Bryant and Ila Dale Harrill; and a brother, J.B. Harrill Jr. Survivors include two sons, Gene Duncan and wife, Francis, and Jerry Duncan, all of Gruver; two sisters, Mozell Louder of Dalhart and Toma Ray Garton of Allerton, Iowa; five grandsons, Scott Duncan and wife, Marie, of Humble, Steve Duncan and wife, Kathy, of College Station, Kelly Don Duncan and wife, Sylvia, and Tracy Duncan, all of Dallas and Justin Duncan of Gruver; and nine great-grandchildren, Joshua, Danielle, Elissa and Sarah, all of College Station and Kyle, Allen, Emily, Preston and Olivia, all of Dallas. The family suggests memorials be to the kitchen fund of First Baptist Church of Gruver, Gruver, TX 79040, Hansford County Hospice, 707 S. Roland, Spearman, TX 79081 or to a favorite charity.
