Okla. Archives. ************************************************************ George L. Smith George L. Smith, 65, of Wellington died Wednesday, August 8, 2001 in Amarillo. Graveside services were held Saturday, August 10, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in North Fairview Cemetery with Rev. James McLeod, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Smith was a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army and worked for the Army Security Agency in Military Intelligence during his twenty year career, which included two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He married Letha Stanley on April 26, 1955 in Altus, OK. He was a baptist. He graduated from Hollis High School and later from Amarillo College. He worked ten years for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and came to Wellington in 1997 after retirement. Survivors include Letha Smith; one son Eddie Smith of Amarillo; four brothers, Tommy Smith of Palmdale,CA; Raymond Smith and Larry Smith of Rosamond,CA; Jimmy Smith of Lancaster, CA; four sisters, Ruth Clayton of Baton Rouge,LA; Linda Pryor of Wyoming; Margaret Mann and Carol Brink of Lancaster, CA; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deedy Holliman in 1997 and by two brothers and a sister. The family suggests memorials be made to Wellington Cemetery Association.--Amarillo Globe News 8-10-2001
