Einan's Funeral Home Fred J. Kite began a new journey on June 20, 2007, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Fred was born on January 5, 1940, in Hollis, Oklahoma. He spent his youth in Sunland Tujunga, California, where he married his high school sweetheart, Merle Ann Hart in 1959, and served two years in the Army stationed in Swabish Gmund, Germany. In 1978, Fred and his family moved to Kennewick. Fred was a communications specialist for Fluor Hanford, Inc., and worked at the Hanford site for 23 years, prior to that he spent 23 years with General Telephone. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and boating and loved watching his five grandsons play sports. Fred was also a huge hockey fan (the refs always were wrong unless his team was winning). In 2006, he had the opportunity to hold the Stanley Cup while at Kadlec Medical Center, one of many highlights in his life. In 2004, at the age of 64, he climbed Mount St. Helens with his family, but he especially loved the High Sierra Mountains of California. When asked about his greatest accomplishment his reply was 'raising my three girls.' Fred is survived by his wife of 48 years, Merle Ann; daughter, Teresa Flores, her husband, Steve and their sons, Rich and Brian; daughter, Cindy Andrews, her husband, Steve and their sons, Jim and Dennis and Jim's wife, Mellissa; and daughter, Kathy Fishback and her son, Tyler; his mother, Phama Jo Kite; his sister, Karen Vadman and her husband, Russ; their son, John; daughter, Christine and their families; brother-in-law, Dennis Hart and sisters-in-law, Susie Hickey and Janie Lucy; a large extended family and many friends. Fred was preceded in death by his father, Fred Jay Kite. Fred's family would like to thank; Roger and Sandy Fishback, Jamie Fishback and Alyssa Kupka for their love and support. We also would like to thank Dr. Kevin Weeks and everyone at the Tri-City Cancer Center and Kadlec Medical Center who touched Fred's life in so many ways. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.leukemia-lymphoma.org). Friends may express their condolences and share their memories in the memorial guest book on Einan's Funeral Home website, www.einansfuneralhome.com. Fred's refusal to quit carried us all through many difficult times. We will miss you!
