All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Flynn Cemetery--Chandler OK Cushing Daily Citizen February 21, 2007 07:17 pm Sherman Lee Barnard Sherman Lee Barnard, age 84, a longtime Cushing resident died on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at the Hillcrest Specialty Hospital in Tulsa. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Flynn Cemetery. Casketbearers will be his grandchildren, Sherman Jones, Tony Moore, Sherman Frantz, Justin Moore, Jason Frantz, Peggy Linderman, Matthew Gordon and Cody Jones. Presenting the United States Flag will be his grandsons Franklin Jones and Jimmie Pauley, members of the American Legion Post 108. Sherman was born on Feb. 12, 1923 in Stigler, Oklahoma to the late Benjamin Harris and Lula (Sisk) Barnard. He grew up in Cushing and attended Cushing Public Schools. His mother passed away while he was young. His father married Rosie, whom helped with raising him. Sherman married Goldia Marie Hargrove on Sept. 18, 1942 in Cushing. Sherman entered the United States Army in 1943, where he served with the 534th Engineer Boat Shore Regiment in New Guinea, Luzon, Philippines and Japan from Apr. 1944 to Dec. 1945 as a Tec ˆ 5 Cook. After returning from service, he worked for the Cushing Regional Hospital in building maintenance. After retiring from the Cushing Regional Hospital, he started a small engine repair. Sherman enjoyed working on lawn mowers and small motors. He attended the First Assembly of God in Cushing. Sherman was a member of the DAV, VFW Post 1118 and the American Legion # 108. Survivors include his daughters Sherman Marcialene Jones and husband Phillip of Cushing, Connie Moore and husband Raymond of Cushing, Maudine Ledbetter and husband Steve of Cushing, step sister Martha Presley of Oklahoma City, ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Friends Bill Smith, Burt Teel and Lewis Cantrell and several nieces and nephews. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Rosie Barnard and his wife Goldie Hargrove, brothers Raymond and Roy Barnard and sister Edith Barnard.
