Jon was born on July 27, 1951, to J.L. and Jewell (Montgomery) Brown in Cartersville, OK. Jon married Wanda Baker on September 3, 1971 in Arkoma, OK. He was a contractor, an ordained minister and a member of the Shepherds Heart Church in Poteau and of Promise Keepers. He loved to hunt and play with his grandchildren. Jon was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife Wanda of the home; two sons; Shawn Ray and wife Jennifer, of Poteau, Mark Dwayne and wife Nikki, of Cameron, one daughter; Amanda Carol, of the home, six grandchildren; Devon, Cole, Garret, Ethan, Dalton and Chloe, his mother; Jewell Bernard and husband, Ray of Pocola, three brothers, Jimmy David Brown and wife Sheila of Poteau, Jared Lee Brown and wife Laura of Gravette, AR, and Jason Hugh Brown of Bixby, Oklahoma, one sister; Judy Carol Slack and husband Gene of Pocola, four step-brothers Kevin Miller, Stan Miller, Brent Miller, all of Oklahoma, and Robin Bernard of California, three step-sisters Sandra Edwards of Missouri, Tina Wilbur of Washington, and Linda Bernard of Arizona, stepmother; Connie Ruth Brown of Gravette, AR, several nieces, nephews, loved ones and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Greg Maxwell, Gary Brown, Kevin Shipman, Gene Slack, Wayne Dillon, Wayne Minks and honorary pallbearers will be R.D. Dameron and Bro. Kevin Fitzgerald. Service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 17, 2006, at Sugarloaf Christian Fellowship near Monroe, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Barry Poche, Rev. Clyde Hess and Rev. Les Scroggins officiating. Interment will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Cameron, Oklahoma. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. The family has requested in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Jon Brown Memorial Fund at Central National Bank, Poteau, Oklahoma.
