All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::South Kern District Cemetery--Arvin CA Mitchell Leslie Burnett Services: Thurs., Jan. 9, 10 a.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2003, at Arvin Assembly of God, at 10:00 a.m., for Mitchell Leslie Burnett, who went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2003. Pastor Allen Palm will officiate the service and interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery District, Arvin. Mitchell L. Burnett was born December 25, 1914, in Stigler, Oklahoma, to Walter and Ida Burnett. He worked on the family farm and attended the little one-room school until the 7th grade or until he was needed to work more to help out his family. In 1933 he met the love of his life, Thelma Popejoy, and on April 1, 1934, they exchanged their wedding vows in Indianola, Oklahoma. Later in the years he moved to California and settled in the city of Arvin looking for work. Mitchell found various jobs such as farming, irrigating, truck driving, buckling hay for .25 cents/hr. He did any work to support his family. Mitchell was one of the original 49ers of Arvin High School (which was in the construction phase) where he worked for many years. Along with his school job, he founded Arvin Fence Company in 1959, which he owned and operated until he retired in 1977. Mitchell and Mrs. Burnett helped build Arvin Assembly of God Church and attended the church. He was a very kind, loving, generous husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents; by two sisters, Mabel Jobe and Cecile Brewer of Arvin; and one son, J.W. Burnett. He is survived by his beloved wife, Thelma of Arvin; son, Walter Burnett of Arvin; his daughter, Patricia and husband, Johnny Villalovos of Arvin; four grandchildren, Walt Burnett of Arvin and Shannon Burnett of Weedpatch, John Carson, Jr. of TN and Lisa Farris of Arvin; 15 great- grandchildren, 2 nieces, 4 nephews, 2 cousins, and a multitude of friends.
