Sue passed away at her sister's home surrounded by family in Bakersfield CA, on May 18, 2007. Lora Sue was born in Stigler, OK on July 26, 1940 to George and Martha Oxford. She is predeceased by her parents, George and Martha Oxford; brother, Russell; sister, Dortha Lou; nephew, Keith Oxford; husbands, Paul Gordon and Milton Spartacus Miller. Lora Sue was raised in Arvin, CA attending the Arvin Union School and graduating from Arvin High. Continuing her education she attended Bakersfield College. Upon completion of Bakersfield College she went to work for Pacific Bell. Lora Sue was then employed by the Probation Department Juvenile Hall where she flourished in every aspect of her position. She maintained the position of group counselor for 10 years. Lora Sue married Paul Gordon and they moved to Los Osos, where she had many wonderful experiences such as camping, traveling and strolling on the beach. Her hair would blow in the wind as a new day began. She returned to Bakersfield after the death of Paul in 1985. After she returned to Bakersfield she went to work for the Kern High School District as an intervention specialist at Vista High School. She was loved and respected by all the students she came in contact with. She in return respected and loved her students at Vista High School. She closed that chapter of her life and began a new one, with Spartacus at the Padre Hotel. She held many positions including helping him manage the Padre. After he passed away she remained in this position until the Padre was sold in 2002. When she walked away for the last time she turned to blow a kiss to the Hotel with tears in her eyes. She had great love and admiration for Spartacus and for the Hotel. There was nothing more Sue enjoyed than giving. She exemplified the spirit of giving, whether it be a total stranger or family members. She will be missed in our lives forever. On special occasions family and friends always gave her a scarf. This brought her much joy. Everyone knew the way to Sue's heart was by giving a beautiful scarf and this became her trademark. Sue is survived by her sister, Kaye Oxford Coletti and husband, John; her brother, George Oxford and wife, Mary; sister, Paula Oxford Bartlett and husband, Greg; an Uncle and Aunt, James and Ida Rose Sossaman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a host of family and friends. Among them her lifelong friendships with Winnie Royal and Priscilla Hallum who among many others have been blessed by her mere presence. A special thank you to Faye Richmond and Hoffmann Hospice.
