All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Greenlawn Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Bakersfield Californian Roy Cleveland Oldham April 20, 1916 April 18, 2002 Services: Tues., April 23, 10 a.m. Roy was born in Sandridge, Oklahoma, April 20, 1916 to Rosie Day and Grover Oldham. He passed away in Bakersfield, CA, Thursday April 18, 2002. He was preceded in death by his daughter Beverly Ann, both parents and sister Muriel King. One of his first jobs was measuring farmland from aerial photos for Haskell County, Oklahoma. He later joined the CC Corp, graduated from High School and attended one year of College in Duncan, Arizona. He worked at Army Camp Gruber in Oklahoma, which was a city within itself. Roy joined the Army during WWII and was in the Signal Corp stationed in New Guinea. After his discharge he joined the Carpenters Union in Oklahoma. Roy married Bernice Parks in February 1944, whom he met on a visit to the War Price and Rationing Office. They moved to Richmond, CA in 1944 where he was employed as a carpenter in the shipyards. Then they moved to Stockton, CA where he was employed as a carpenter at the Naval Supply Depot on Rough and Ready Island. They moved to Bakersfield, CA in 1946 where he joined Carpenters Local 743. He recently was awarded the 55 year membership pin. Roy was a master craftsman. He enjoyed collecting and repairing old violins. Roy is survived by Bernice his loving wife of 58 years and sons Jerry his wife Janna and their son Andrew, Gary and his wife Carol, Lance and his wife Gayle. His brother Gene Oldham and wife Nelda, sisters Mildred Boyles, Dorothy Livesay and husband Haskell, Marjorie Underwood and husband Jake, Reveta Hawley and a great number of nieces and nephews. Roy is also survived by this special group of grandchildren Bryan, Gene, John, Tonya, Charles, Marshal, Brady, Jude and Rachel.
