Scales Sr. Jan. 23, 1932 Jan. 15, 2006 Former Bakersfield resident Glyn H. Scales Sr., 73, died January 15, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, in Anchorage, Alaska. Mr. Scales was born January 23, 1932, in McCurtain, Oklahoma, one of four children born to Mark and Emma (George) Scales. The family lived in Oklahoma until the mid-1930s, then migrated to California along Route 66. The family lived near Bakersfield, California. Mr. Scales graduated from Shafter High School in 1950. In high school, he was a celebrated football and baseball star. He attended Fresno State University on a football scholarship. Mr. Scales served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-55, when he was honorably discharged. In 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Peterson. They were stationed at Moffett Field in Mountain View, California. In 1955, the family moved to Bakersfield, where Mr. Scales began his career in the oil business. In 1970, Mr. Scales was transferred to Anchorage with Brown Oil Tools. As a result of the transfer, Mr. Scales was active in the development of Prudhoe Bay. In the early '70s, he and his wife founded two small companies, Eagle Enterprises and Drilling Supply and Rental. Mr. Scales retired in 1989 and enjoyed a full retirement with much travel, golf and a vacation home in Palm Desert, California. A passionate Notre Dame football fan, he attended several games on campus. Mr. Scales was preceded in death by his son, Anthony "Tony"; brother, Robert; and brothers-in-law, Ben Peterson, Art Petersen and Gilbert Heriford. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie; children, Nicholas and wife, Robyn, Teresa and husband, Michael, Cynthia, Penelope and fiance Mark, and Glyn Jr. and wife, Danette; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mr. Scales' honor to the American Heart Association, Alaska Aids Assistance Association, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
