All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Simmons, Willard SIMMONS, Willard "Sherell" - It is in Loving Memory that we share the passing of long-time Ukiah resident, Willard "Sherell" Simmons, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son-in- law, brother-in-law, and friend to many. Sherell passed away December 2, 2006, in the company of his wife of 42 years, Glenys Simmons. Sherell was a resident of Mendocino County for 60 years and a well- known realtor with Century 21 Les Ryan Realty. Mr. Simmons was born August 21, 1941, in Keota, Oklahoma, to Willard Woodrow & Edna Jane Simmons. Sherell lived in Hopland most of his childhood, and graduated from Hopland High School in 1959. His son, Joseph Brett Simmons, and parents, Willard Woodrow Simmons and Edna Jane Cook preceded Sherell in death. Sherell is survived by his wife, Glenys Simmons, daughter, Diana Simmons, grandson, Colton Crabtree, sister, Nynva Simmons of Rogersville, Missouri, niece, Nicole Barnett and her daughter Allyssa Barnett, of Centertown, Missouri, "taken-under-his- wing" daughter, Amy Vidmar-Howe, of Sydney, Australia and husband Michael Howe, mother-in-law, Barbara Beeler, brother-in-law, Bob Beeler, wife, Joy, and his daughter Kristi. Some of Sherell's many accomplishments include construction of the South Ukiah Little League complex, where he also served as President and coach. He was also President & a coach of Ukiah Youth Baseball. Mr. Simmons served as a board member of the Ukiah Main Street Program, and the Ford Street Program in Ukiah. Mr. Simmons also served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. As a young adult, Sherell owned and operated the Chevron Station on the corner of N. State Street and Lake Mendocino Drive from 1963-1965. He was a salesman for Rinehart Oil for 11 years. From 1976 to 1980, Sherell owned and operated American Tire & Wheel. And, in 1976 Mr. Simmons also began his most successful career as a realtor. One of Sherell's real estate quotes was "don't let the price scare you!" Sherell's ability to get along and relate to people of all walks of life was one of his greatest attributes. Sherell was a very generous and happy person, who loved to socialize with friends and colleagues. Sherell was a self-made man, who worked hard for his successes along side his wife, Glenys. In his leisure time, Sherell enjoyed numerous vacations in far away places, boating, fishing, hunting, RVing, and family activities. A colleague said Sherell was "a father to us all." He will be missed by many, and never forgotten. At Sherell's request, there will be no formal services. Join us in a celebration of Sherell's life Thursday, December 7th, 4:00 p.m., at Brutocao's Schoolhouse Plaza in Hopland.
