All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Greenlawn Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Helen Ervin Thomas Services: Tues, March 11, 10 a.m. Helen Ervin Thomas was born November 7, 1937 in Keota, Oklahoma. She went to be with her Lord and Savior March 7, 2003. She was married to Milton Thomas on February 28, 1959, they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary this past week. She is also survived by her three children; her daughter, Brenda and her husband Rick Palmer, their children Alex and Megan. Her daughter Shirley and her husband Larry Boland, their children Samuel Johnson, Peter, Anna, and Mary Boland. Her son Robert and his wife J.J. and their daughter Sara. She is also survived by her sister, Lois Parmelee and five brothers, Clarence, Charles, Dale, Joe and Jim Ervin and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents C.C. and Eula Ervin, her brother Dean and son-in-law Robert Johnson. Helen came to California with her family as a teenager and graduated from Porterville High School. She was a certified Psychiatric Technician and worked in and around hospitals most of her adult life. While her children were school age she was an at-home mom who devoted her time to her childrens many and varied activities. She was active in the PTA, 4-H and the Kern Union Bible Church. She later returned to her hospital career, first at Sierra View Hospital in Porterville, then at Kern Medical Center, from which she retired in 2001 as payroll supervisor. In her retirement she liked traveling with her husband; they had recently returned from a trip to Oklahoma and her first visit to the Grand Canyon. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildrens events and watching her husband play baseball with the Silver Streakers. She was a member of Valley Baptist Church, where she especially enjoyed the empty nesters group Balcony Women. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Her family would like to offer their heartfelt Thanks to her friend and doctor, Jennifer Abraham, M.D. and her staff, who was so generous with her time and attention during Helens illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Alan Cartmell and Dr. John Byfield and their respective staffs, who went above and beyond the call of duty in her medical care. Helen was diagnosed with cancer in November 2002, and she fought a courageous battle with this wicked disease. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Greenlawn Mortuary on River Boulevard, with a luncheon to follow at Valley Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Helens name to the American Cancer Society or the Valley Baptist Church building fund.
