Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Jones, and the Rev. James Mahan officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. She was born May 24, 1905 in Utica (Indian Territory) to James Edgar and Linnie Maude (Williams) McMennamy. She married Otis Dee Allen Nov. 6, 1924, in Durant. He died Oct. 16, 1999. She lived in the Jackson County area for more than 70 years. She was homemaker and her hobbies included cooking, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. She was a long time member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Altus and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis; her parents; an infant son; a daughter, Reta Sherman; a brother, Milburn McMennamy; and three sisters, Dessie Crossland, Lera Taylor, and Tressie Brown. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Letha Allen of Odessa, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Norma and Joe Adair of Wichita Falls, Texas and Peggy Adelman of Smyrna, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Orilla Glenn of Altus; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and special friends, Hattie and DeWitt Heim.. The family will have visitation at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday. Bell Leslie Cleon Bell, 87, Mangum died at the Mangum City Hospital Monday after a lengthy illness. Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service. He was born April 27, 1912 at Mangum to Leslie and Mary (Regian) Bell. He married Mildred Wright July 3, 1938 at Hugo. He lived most of his life in the Mangum area and was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Kennith Kirby of Granite, Carroll and Hulon Kyle of Mangum; a son, Darroll Bell of Mangum; a brother, Cloyce Bell; grandchildren, Sharon and Randel Terry, Kevin and Nancy Kirby, Doug and Kathy Kyle, Cindy and Danny Higbee. Cannady Jewel Cannady, Oklahoma City, formerly of Mangum died Monday at the Baptist Retirement Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 82. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery at Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home. She was born Oct. 24, 1917 to W.J. and Lena (Davis) Holcomb in Kenefic, Okla. She married Hassel "Hack" Cannady June 7, 1942, in Mangum. She was a clerk and bookkeeper at C.R. Anthony in Mangum and Hobart for 15 years. Her hobby was playing "42" at the community center with her friends. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Mangum. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dwight Rosenbaum of Oklahoma; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alvin and Marion Cannady of Carson City, Nev. and Doyle Cannady of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandsons, Gregg Cannady of Dallas, Grant Rosenbaum of Norman and Dayton Cannady of Littler Rock, Ark. and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, W.J. Holcomb; her mother, Lena Holcomb; her husband, Hack Cannady; a brother, Joe Holcomb; and two sisters, Bessie Laminack and Virgie Coatney. Carrick Jan Carrick, 69, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Clem Dozer officiating. Carrick was born July 8, 1930, in Hollis, to Garland Motley and Thelma Hart Motley. She attended Hollis Schools, Stephens College and graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1952. She was a teacher for two years at Wichita Falls, Texas and Plainview, Texas, before she married J.A. Carrick in Hollis on Feb. 27, 1955. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women's Organization, and the 51 Sorosis Club. She began her career in 1965, and became a well-known artist who showed her paintings in two galleries in Oklahoma City and had a showing honoring her at Rose State College. She made several cultural art tours to New York, San Francisco, New Mexico and Arizona. Sen. David Boren and Gov. George Nigh were among the many encouraging customers she had. She was invited to show her paintings at the State Capitol Rotunda for several years. Several area artists have attended art classes with her. She is survived by her husband, J.A., of the home; one son, Gary and his wife Cindy of Collierville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jordan and one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Betty Motely of Hollis. Cooper Anona C. Cooper, 70, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lowell-Tims Chapel with the Rev. Keith Gillham officiating. Interment will follow at Sentinel Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Cooper was born July 28, 1929, in Port, to Cecil and Lucille (Smith) Lidia. She lived in the Altus area for the past 25 years, moving here from Sentinel. Cooper was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies' Auxiliary. She graduated from Sentinel High School in 1946. She was retired from civil service at Altus Air Force Base, where she had been employed as a supply analyst for 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Cooper was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Dick Abston; her husband Paul Cooper in January of 1995; and one daughter, Diana Schuffler in September of 1993. Survivors include: her children, Vickie Hooley and her husband Colin of Mangum, Lea Ann Daffron of Altus; one sister, Nelrita Eatherton of Las Animas, Colo.; five granddaughters and four great grandchildren. Criner Funeral services for Wayna Criner, 37, Lawton, are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Letitia Baptist Church, east of Lawton, with the Rev. Bubba Clark officiating. Criner died Saturday north of Elgin from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Burial will be at Letitia Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home. Criner was born March 26, 1963, in Lawton. She graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1982. She was voted Miss Photogenic in the 1982 Miss Lawton Pageant. She worked for Metro Airlines one year before marrying Ed Criner on Oct. 13, 1989 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She had worked as the manager of Monterey Jack's Cafe and Cantina for the past three years. She was a member of Letitia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry White and her grandmother, Faye McCarley. Virginia McAlpine was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Olustee, to John Alexander and Minnie Mae (Box) McAlpine. She graduated from Victory High School and married C.D. (Darwin) Davenport on May 20, 1947, in Mangum. She raised six children and was a life long help mate on the family farm. She had worked at the Philips 66 station and had held various other jobs in Altus over the years. She was a 15-year member of the Victory Club, a woman's quilting club, from the late 40s to the early 60s. Her hobbies included reading, collecting Frankhoma plates, sewing and raising cockatiels. Davenport was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John C. McAlpine and Donald J. McAlpine; a daughter, Virginia Diane; and a son, Frank Edward Davenport. Driver Reath Idessa Driver, former Eldorado resident, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Harmon Memorial Hospital at the age of 78. She was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Emory, Texas, to C.C. and Hattie Mae (Pennybaker) York. She married Oran L. Driver on Oct. 22, 1938, in Lawton. She lived in the Eldorado area for the past 61 years. She was a member of the Baptist church for more than 60 years. Driver was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marjorie Wainscott; one daughter, Norma Jean Egerton and one great grandchild. Hallford Arla E. Hallford, 100, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Grace Living Center in Mangum. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with his grandson, the Rev. Ronny J. White officiating. Dr. Dean Goodfellow will assist. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. Hallford was born Nov. 17, 1899, in Newburg Community, Comanche County, Texas, to Edward Lewis and Henrietta (Cunningham) Hallford. He married Willie Couch on June 10, 1922, in Blanket, Texas. He attended Howard Payne College and Baylor University. He was a teacher in Newburg and superintendent of schools in Grosvenor, Texas, until 1940. He then worked for the Texas Department of Public Affairs in Quanah, Amarillo and Eastland until his retirement in 1963. He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church in Eastland, Texas, and was a resident of Grace Living Center in Mangum since October 1993. Hallford was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one sister, Alda McCarty; son-in-law, Glendon Hayes and an infant grandson, Wes Williams. Survivors include: four daughters and three sons-in-law, Dorothy and Homer Jackson of Amarillo, Texas, Billie Hays of Fort Smith, Ark., Pat and Durward Williams of Aubrey, Texas and Lou Helen and Jay White of Eldorado; one niece and her husband, Bobby and Marshall Ray of Mineral Wells, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Frederick, to Frank and Jessie (Rogers) Williams. She was a life long Tillman County resident and graduated from Frederick High School. She married Kenneth Harlow on June 25, 1938, at the Frederick Hotel. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was a homemaker as well as a cook for Frederick and Weaver Schools for 19 years. She also served as a cook for Falls Creek Youth Camp and several 4-H camps for many years. She also worked at the Frederick Memorial Hospital as auxiliary help making hand made toys for children for 30 years. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, L.D. Williams and one sister, Vera Henry and her step-mother, Lura (Doze) Williams. Survivors include: two sons, Dale and Mary K. Harlow of Littleton, Colo. and Guy and Marcia Harlow of Duncan; one brother, Wayne and Olis Williams of Deer Park, Texas; three grandchildren, Michelle Burnett, Brad and Tonya Harlow; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born in Burkburnett, Texas, to Claud and Gertrude (Holley) Balthrop. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School at the age of 16. She attended and graduated from Stamps Baxter School of Music in Dallas and performed with the Rangers Quartet, James Blackwood and The Blackwood Brothers Group and the Stateman's Quartet. She later graduated from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls with a degree in speech therapy. On Jan. 17, 1966, in Charleston, S.C., Dorothy and Terrel G. (Terry) Lane, Sr., were united in marriage. Terry preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1995. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Dorothy was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Altus. Leister Funeral services for Herman D. Leister, 87, Lawton, are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel. He died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at a Lawton hospital. Burial will be at Altus City Cemetery at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Leister was born Feb. 17, 1913, at McCloud, to George Carl and Molly (Barthloma) Leister. He joined the Army on Jan. 30, 1941, at Fort Sill. He served during World War II and received the American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, EAME Service Ribbon and One Silver Star. He was honorably discharged on July 23, 1951. He then owned and operated a trailer court in California for several years and also was involved in the motel business in Brookline, Mo. He married Ruth Hubert on Dec. 20, 1947. She preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1977. He came to Lawton in the 1970's and remained there until his death. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include: a daughter, Doris Clanton, Lawton; two grandchildren, James Cross and Doris Marie Haynes, both of Brookline, Mo.; eight great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; two nieces, Wanda Ray of Shawnee and Georgia Nolan of Asher and a nephew, Roy J. Long Floyd Marshall (Pat) Long, 87, longtime Altus resident, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at his home. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Long was born Aug. 6, 1912, to Roy and Lillie (Barkley) Long at Frederick. He grew up in Texas and southern Oklahoma and attended Porter High School in Jackson County. He married Katie Gentry on July 23, 1932, in Jackson County. He worked all his life in the automotive business, starting out as a mechanic, and later, serving as service manager at three different dealerships spanning 36 years, from 1941 until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ, serving as Elder for 36 years. He had been a member of the Lions Club, and helped with the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts when his children were young. He especially enjoyed golfing. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister. Matthews Charles Eugene Matthews, 56, Altus, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at his home. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Altus Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Ortega officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Matthews was born Dec. 19, 1943, in Pauls Valley, to Virgil Tilson and Jewel Mae (Maxwell) Matthews. He moved from Earlsboro to Altus in 1998 to be near his family. He enjoyed playing dominoes, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1971 and his father in 1969. Norris Frank Clifton Norris, Mangum, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, in Grand Saline, Texas, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Mangum Church of Christ. Interment was at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home. Norris was born June 11, 1921, in Fannin County, near Wolfe City, Texas, to Parks Norris, Sr. and Boneta Shelton Norris. He married Ruby Marie Fowler of Eldorado on Nov. 19, 1942, at Altus. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in France. Following his military service, he worked for Kroehler Furniture Manufacturing Company, and also Executive Aircraft in Dallas. He then jointly owned and operated Gar-Rich Upholstery Shop in Richardson, Texas. He and his family relocated to Mangum in 1969, where he continued the upholstery business and became certified as an instructor and retired from Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite, where he taught upholstery. He served as a deacon in the Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas, and Mangum. Norris was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Parks Norris, Jr., in 1996. Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Ruby Norris; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and James Jacobs of Edgwood, Texas, Judy and Jim Kennedy of Moore; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Nicole Norris of Mangum; daughter, Cheryl Bentley Lazenby of Mangum; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and J.W. Carl McCoy officiating. Burial was at Altus City Cemetery. Osburn was born July 29, 1925, in Paris, Texas, to Roy L. and Frances (Whitlock) Landers. She married James F. Osburn on June 24, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Martha Schools and worked at F.W. Woolworth for 20 years. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Scott; a brother, Kenneth Landers and two sisters, Janelle Sarrett and Katherine Sanderson. Powers, 73, Altus, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at the home of her son Mike in San Diego, Calif. Powers was born May 20, 1926, in Duke, to Carl W. and Lurline (Atherton) Middleton. She had lived in the Altus and Duke areas all her life. She married Gale Powers on March 6, 1943. He preceded her in death in June of 1966. She worked in an abstract office, was assistant county school superintendent, worked in a mental health center as a certified alcoholism and drug counselor and social worker. She retired in August of 1987 and maintained an apartment in San Diego, near her son for the past several years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and going to OU football games with her son. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and a nephew. Survivors include: her son Mike of San Diego; two sisters, Naomi McCarty of Altus and Nowana Durrett and husband Hugh of Tulsa; sister-in-law, Lota Middleton of Oklahoma City and several other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Kincannon Funeral Home. Prewitt A granddaughter of pioneer settlers of Jackson County, Oklahoma, Mrs. Ira C. Prewitt was born Jan. 1, 1906, in Eldorado. Her grandparents homesteaded land there during the 1890's. Her father, Roland Woolsey Summers, was associated with his father in the hardware store business. Her mother was Pearl Elizabeth (Tucker) Summers of Victoria County, Texas. Familiarly known as "Dede," Prewitt was named for her uncle, Dr. DeWitt C. Buck, who lived in the first house built in Eldorado. After attending Oklahoma College for Women and Oklahoma City University, Dede was married on June 28, 1925, to Ira Clement Prewitt, son of M.J. and Ada Prewitt of Eldorado. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Altus, where he was a pharmacist for the Royal Drug Store. After serving in the Army during World War II, he purchased and operated the South Main Drug Store in Altus until his death on July 28, 1962. Mrs. Prewitt found time to operate her own beauty shop for 20 years while raising the couple's two children. She also helped in her husband's drug store both before and after the years when she ran her beauty shop. The Prewitts also owned a two-section ranch located between Altus and Eldorado on which the first commercial copper mine in Oklahoma was operated during the 1960s and 70s. She was an active and devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus for 60 years. She was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent for more than 30 years. She also organized the Intermediate Youth Fellowship and worked with it for about 15 years. Additionally, she was a member of the Chancel Choir for more than 40 years. She also served as president and held other offices for her Methodist Women's organization, as well as served on the administrative board and several commissions of her church. Some of her other activities included volunteer work with the American Cancer Society for 20 years, the Infantile Paralysis Association for 10 years, and the Jackson County Hospital Authority for four years. A charming hostess and entertaining conversationalist with many interests, Mrs. Prewitt was elected the Altus Kiwanis Club Mother of the Year for 1976-77. She was also a member of the Clionian Study Club for 33 years and its president for four years, as well as member of the American Association of China Painters. An excellent bridge player, Dede also enjoyed reading, china painting and traveling. A list of her travels indicated a sense of adventure, for besides the Holy Lands and most of Europe, she visited the Far East, Africa, South America, Hawaii, the Caribbean and the Canary Islands. Very outgoing, friendly and congenial, Dede's delightful personality attracted people as she was a very understanding, warm and loving human being. Mrs. Werta Reid, Dede's next door neighbor in Altus for 21 years, said of Dede when she moved to Denver, "I consider her a loyal friend and a kind and helpful neighbor, as well as a joy to be with and to know. I shall miss her." Mrs. Prewitt moved from Altus in 1983 to be with her daughter in Denver. She moved again in 1994 with her daughter to Missoula, Mont. She had two children, Joan Eger of Missoula, Mont. and Robert C. Prewitt of Aurora, Colo. She had six grandchildren and two great grandsons. A devoted Christian and a loyal, supportive member of the Methodist Church, Dede had a high moral character. Throughout her life, she reflected God's beauty and was a wonderful example of what it is to have a close walk with the Lord. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center. She died Friday. A memorial service will be held in the future. Rogers Joyce Ann Rogers died this morning at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Rooker Virgie Marshall Rooker died at Denton, Texas. Services are pending at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Shatswell Martha Marie Shatswell, 82, Blair, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Blair Church of Christ with Joe Waugh officiating. Burial will be at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf. She was born May 27, 1917 in Ryal to William Harrison Delphia Emmaline (Poor) Luellen. She married Morris Shatswell, Aug. 19, 1934. He died Jan. 25, 1988. She was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, a grandson, Richard Fisher in 1964. Survivors include three sons, Ron Shatswell of Altus, Kenneth Shatswell of Blair, and Clovis Shatswell of Woodward; three daughters, Lillian Fisher of Lone Wolf, Jolene Brooks of Guthrie and Christine McMurry of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Turnbough Luther D. Turnbough, 83, former Eldorado resident, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Levelland, Texas. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Dean Goodfellow officiating. Burial was at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Turnbough was born June 19, 1916, to Jonathan Luther and Avice (Owens) Turnbough in Eldorado. He grew up in Eldorado and graduated from school there. He married Ethel Samples April 12, 1937, in Eldorado. He served in the U.S. Army in 1943. Most of his life's work was dedicated to the oil field industry - participating in all phases of production, including management. He was a member of the Lion's Club and the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. He served as a deacon and was the Sunday School superintendent for several years. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing. Turnbough was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ethel in 1996 and three sisters. Survivors include: three daughters and their husbands, Tommie and Eddie Leamon, Levelland, Texas, Janice Cavner and Clifton Narcisse, San Diego, Calif. and Lee Ann Fisher and Gary Anderson, Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Ella Moulton, San Angelo, Texas and Francis Tindall, Redlands, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many friends. Ware Ella Mae Ware, 87, Quanah, Texas, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at her home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church. The Rev. John Spangler officiated. Burial was at Goodlett Cemetery under the direction of Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Ware was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Groesback, Texas. She was the daughter of Berry and Rosie Pebehouse Leonard. She and Kenneth Edward Ware were married on March 11, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas. He died May 2, 1981. She lived in Quanah most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Elba School and member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Daisy Mobley, Lillie Belle Carroll and Laura Pug Jones; a daughter, Lona Fay Ritchie on Aug. 2, 1994 and a granddaughter, Ethel May Shelton. Survivors include: four sons, Jimmie Ware of Quanah, Edward Ware of Idalou, Texas, Berry Daniel of Mabank, Texas and Raymon Daniel of Las Vegas; two daughters, Jackie Henderson of Altus and Alvis Hooie, Rogersville, Ala.; five sisters, Thelma Roe of Quanah, Elizabeth Wiseman, Wichita Falls, Texas and Louise Shelton, Quinland, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. Wheat Gary Bruce Wheat, 40, San Marcos, Texas, died Sunday, April 9, 2000. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today in the First Christian Church of San Marcos with the Rev. Jimmy Cobb officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas, under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home of San Marcos. Wheat was born July 24, 1959, to Donald and Lois Wheat in Beaumont, Texas. He served his country in the Air Force, from which he retired in 1994 after attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He attended SWTSU and graduated with a bachelor's degree in science in 1996 with summa cum laude honors. At the time of his death, he was working toward his masters degree in education. Wheat is survived by: his wife Kathy, of San Marcos; son, Kyle Bruce Wheat of Beaumont, Texas; daughter, Melinda Christine Wheat of Mauriceville, Texas; stepson and daughter-in-law, Randy and Stella Welch, stepson Phillip Welch; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Mark Hasty; grandchildren, Carson and Cary Welch, Mason and Karter Hasty, all of Duke; mother, Lois Wheat of Beaumont, Texas; grandfather, J.O. Wheat of Lufkin, Texas; grandparents, Carl and Grace Spears of Vidor, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Jamie Wheat of Conroe, Texas; brother, Larry Wheat of Beaumont, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Brandon Bowles of Magnolia, Texas; many nieces, nephews and friends. Wheat was preceded in death by his father, Donald Bruce Wheat. White Ethel O. White, 98, Altus, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Quartz Mountain Care Center. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Altus City Cemetery with Bill Osborne and the Rev. T.J. Willingham officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The family will have visitation from 7 until 9 p.m. today at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. White was born Sept. 7, 1901, in Arapaho to Delnoe Taylor Thompson and Almeda Pearl (Moore) Thompson. She had lived in Altus since 1925. On March 30, 1927, in Mangum, she married Pearl Hardin White. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1955. White worked for several years as a telephone operator, but her greatest joy was being a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and four brothers. Survivors include: one daughter, D'Eon Thomason and husband Arlis of Altus.
