Services were held April 2 at the Blair Methodist Church, with Ruth Atterberry officiating. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Mangum. Services were under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf. He was born Sept. 6, 1933 at Lake Creek to William Oreck and Ole Re (Simonton) Aebischer. He married Helen Blain on May 5, 1978. He was truck driver. He drove for Jewett Scott, Sr., Thurman Smith, Jewett Scott, Jr. and Kizziar Feed lots. He also worked as a security guard at Hollis, at the Ladessa missile site and the Oklahoma State Highway Department. He also helped his father on the farm and plowed garden plots for the public. His hobbies included frog giging , duck hunting and fishing with his father. Survivors include his wife, Helen; a brother, Rhonald Aebischer, Richland, Texas; three sisters, Mary Rutledge, Oklahoma City, Barbara Uptergrove, Hobart and Donna Inks, Granite and many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Lawana June Hawbaker. Alexander Charles C. Alexander died Sunday at Lawton at the age of 83. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Lawton under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service with the Rev. Kenyon Bush and the Rev. Rodger Arter officiating. Burial will be at the Cache cemetery with military honors. He married Agnes Louise (Ray) Alexander at Wichita Falls, Texas on Dec. 22, 1951. He entered the United States Army in August of 1935 at Fort Sill and retired with military honors in February of 1963. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He later worked for the Civil Service at Fort Sill retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cache. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rondal Ray Alexander; eight brothers and sisters and two grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Louise Alexander, of the home; two sons, Carl Edward Alexander and wife Mary, Chickasha; Larry Dale Alexander and wife Terry, Altus; three daughters, Wanda Faye Boxmeyer and husband Bruce, St. Paul, Minn.; Dianna Kay Austerlitz and husband Don of Cache; Charles Rae Eiling and husband Danny, Cache; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Berry Services for Dee Berry, 97, Crosbyton, Texas, were held Sunday at the Crosbyton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Griffin. Burial was held at the Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton. He died Friday at a Crosbyton hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1903 in Oklahoma Territory. He married Leona Margaret Criswell Aug. 12, 1927 in Mangum. She died Jan. 12, 1989. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He managed the Kalgary Gin from 1958 until his retirement. He was also a farmer and a rancher. He moved to Kalgary in 1958 from Canyon Valley. He managed cotton gins for more than 50 years. Survivors include two sons, Mike Berry of Altus and Chris Berry of Crosbyton.; a daughter, Dee Dee Talbert of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, L.C. Berry of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Kyle Solomon. Biddy Buleah Marie Biddy, 87, Center, Texas and former Blair resident, died Wednesday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Blair, with the Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at the Warren Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf. She was born Oct. 27, 1913 in Blair, to Will and Mae (Reynolds) McDoniel. She was raised in Blair and lived there until she moved to Center on Dec. 1, 1997 when she became a resident of Green Acres Nursing Home. She married Marvin Biddy March 25, 1932 in Blair. He preceded her in death June 3, 1976. She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; two brothers, Archie McDoniel and Jonell McDoniel; two sister, Thelma McDoniel Johnston and Lillian McDoniel Isabell. Brooks Luther Mark Brooks, 77, Blair died Monday at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m.Wednesday at the House of Prayer in Blair with Jeff Owens officiating. He married Bernice Yarber Dec. 13, 1942 at Mangum. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as an electrician at Altus Air Force Base. He also owned and operated Brooks House Moving Service and Brooks Bait Shop. Luther's hobbies were fishing and raising quail, pheasant and other fowl. He was member of the House of Prayer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Kay Brooks; four brothers, Pollard, Roy, Harold and James and a sister, Lundy Monroe. He was born Feb. 27, 1924 near Humphreys and attended school in Humphreys. He farmed until he retired. Butler Daisy Butler, 104, died at Mangum City Hospital following a two-month illness. Services were held Tuesday with the Rev. James Callins and Martha Ann Skinner officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside cemetery. She was born June 25, 1896 at Darnell, Ark. to Noten and Maggie Daniel. She married James L. Davis in 1916 at Darnelle, Ark. She came to Mangum 54 years ago and worked as housekeeper for the Dr. Fred Sellers family. She spent her life working until she was 87 years old. She was a mid-wife and helped others. She enjoyed sewing, working jig saw puzzles and caring for her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors by one daughter, Mamie Singleton of mangum; two sons, James W. Davis of Lubbock, Texas and Willie J. Davis of Texas; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great-gandchildren; one niece and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, nine children, seven siblings, and one grandson Jimmy King. Carpenter Edith L. Carpenter, 82, Altus, died Friday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. A celebration of life service will be held by family members at 2 p.m. Monday at the Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. She was born Oct. 3, 1918 in Virginia to William Inez (Knight) Armstrong. She attended school in Louisa County, Va. She married Jesse Lee Carpenter in October of 1940 in Orange County, Va. She was a homemaker most of her life, taking care of her home and raising her family. She was of Baptist faith and enjoyed embroidery, cross stitch, dancing, yardwork and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Mary Hicks; one brother, Jimmy Armstrong and a daughter, Joyce Rogers. Chapmon Paul J. Chapmon, 72, Mangum, died Tuesday as a result of a farm accident northwest of Mangum. Services were held Friday with burial at the Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Sam Studer officiated. They made their home in Mangum for the past five years. He was a retired steel worker. He enjoyed fishing and carpentry work. He was a collector eagles. Cypert Jobyna Cypert, 47, Charlotte, N.C. died Monday at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte. She married Lloyd Pat Cypert July 11, 1980 in Metairie, La. She studied at the New York School of Ballet. She obtained her associates degree and was working on her bachelor's degree at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her father, Erich; a son, Lloyd Pat Cypert, Jr. who died in 1984; and a brother, Bayard Hardt, who died in 1992. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 1, 1926 in Altus to Elmer A. and Hazel B. (Scalf) Dollins. He attended Prairie Hill and Victory schools. He served about two years in the U.S. Army as a medic. He married Marie Ware Nov. 4, 1944 in Mangum. He was a dispatcher with City Concrete for from 1957 until 1977. He worked three years for Tankawa Refinery and for about six years for Brown and Son Trucking Company, both at Arnett. He worked for Texaco in Medicine Lodge, Kan. from 1984 until his retirement in 1989. His wife died in April of 1989. He married Jessie Marsha Dec. 28, 1995 in Altus In his retirement he enjoyed fishing, camping, baseball, dominoes, cards and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, marie. Ferris Charles Ferris (Fisher), 59, former Altus resident died Wednesday in Belton, Texas from a massive stroke. Services were held Saturday at the Altus City Cemetery. He was born June 20, 1941 in Mineral Wells, Texas to Angie Marie Fisher and Floyd Gus Fisher, Sr. He owned car dealership in Altus for more than 10 years and in Belton, Texas for five years. He also owned a bail bondsman business for 15 years and was a security officer for two years. He served with the United States Air Force for four years. He was member of the Baptist Church. Ronald Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Streetman, Texas to Roy and Fleeta (Jackson) Gould. He attended Lincoln High School in Altus. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Claudia Mae Gray April 11, 1946 in Altus. He was an Altus business man for many years until his retirement in 1988. He married Sandra Kay Ray Sept. 18, 1987 in Altus. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. He enjoyed sports on television, especially major league baseball, checkers and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and sons, Mac Thomas Gould, Jr. and Larry Dwayne Gould. Hall Mary Edith Hall, 102, was born to Charles Garnet and Rose Ellen Rayan Hall in Montague, Texas on Thanksgiving Day in 1898. When Mr. Hall told the other children they had a baby sister, they asked "Where did we get her?" "Found her under that rose bush over there," Mr. Hall answered. Edith was two years old when the family moved to Gainesville, Texas. They later moved to Ardmore, Sulphur and then to Memphis, Texas before moving to the little town of Altus" in 1909. Altus had a population of about 4,000. There was a hotel just south of the present site of the First National Bank, and it was there that Edith and her family spent their first night in Altus. Edith was 10 years old and attended school where Washington Elementary is today. She graduated from Altus High School in 1918. From a very early age, Edith taught Sunday School in the First Baptist Church to children, young people adults and was endeared by all who attended her classes. Her last class was the Adult Ruth Class where she taught from 1953 until her retirement in 1984. Edith was employed at the city library for 42 years, serving as the first assistant to her sister, Mrs. E.F Gore. Edith was later appointed to head librarian and served in the position for 15 years before retiring. She is survived by several cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Seltzer Hall, two sisters, Gussie and Lena a nephew, Willis Gore. Hamersley Willie Mitchell Hamersley, former Eldorado resident died recently at Providence Hospital, Anchorage Alaska at the age of 92. Survivors include his wife Nora of the home, a son Joe and wife Shanna, two daughters Christine and John Kusma of Anchorage and Joy and husband Lt. Col Jon Payne; a brother, Wayne Hamersley of Altus and sisters Ellen Speth of Bakersfield, Calif. and Mary Brake of Mineral Wells, Texas; a sister in-law, Gladys Hamersly of Eldorado; John Payne of Nebraska; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He married Stella Ann Mistretta. She died in September, 1989. He was a farmer and ranched near Visnon until his retirement. he was a member of the Baptist Church. James Thomas Clyde "Sam" James, 80, of Mangum, died Saturday at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Rush Springs Westview Cemetery with Darrell Ware officiating. During high school she was a member of the Yukon High school Band Color Guard, and played the flute in the concert band. She attended El Reno Junior College graduating with an associate's degree in 1996 and completed her B.A. degree in Sociology at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She worked for Walmart Photo Lab in Yukon for six years and was recently employed as a lab processor for Quest Diagnostic in Oklahoma City. Her goal in life was to be a counselor for abused children and those affected by HIV/AIDS. She is survived by her mother, Reta Curtis Penington of Tulsa; father, Jeff Kelly and wife Peggy of Yukon; three sisters, Melanie Heather Kelly of Yukon, Heather Raye Furber of Henderson, Nev. and Meghan Kathleen Kelly of Yukon; a brother, Jeffrey James Frank Kelly of Yukon; maternal grandparents, Fred and Pat Curtis of Yukon; paternal grandparents, Joann Kelly of Hennessey and one step-grandfather, Jim Hildebrand of Oklahoma and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a bookkeeper and member of the Eastern Star since 1944 and a member of Extension Homemakers for more than 50 years. Meek Leon Howard Meek, 58, died Monday at his home in Hollis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Densman and the Rev. Jack Harris officiating. He was born May 1, 1942, at the family home in Harmon County to Fred and Pauline (Kitty) Davidson Meek. He attended Arnett schools. He was a farmer and lived in the McKnight community all of his life. He married Karren Kay Carter on May 23, 1967 in Clayton, N.M. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. His special interests were his children, grandchildren, farming, working on his family tree, people, windmills and Bob Wills' western swing music. He is survived by his wife Karren of the home; daughter, Jetta Earls and her husband, Tommy of Elk City; a son, Kacey Meek of Hollis; his mother, Pauline (Kitty) Meek, also of Hollis; two sisters, Jo Ella Meek of Oklahoma City and Fredna Hash and husband Dennis of Miami; four grandsons, Mathew Matheson of Beaver, Colby Earls and Cameron Earls of Childress, Texas and Montana Matheson of Elk City. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Lee Meek in 1989. Mills Paul Kenneth "Rabbit" Mills, 77, died Tuesday in Hollis following an extended illness. Graveside services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Lone Cedar Cemetery in Mannsville. Services are under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service at Hollis. He was born Feb. 14, 1924 in Ravia to Rufus J. and Sally Sheppard Dollar Mills. He lived in Hollis for approximately 23 years. He married Opal Inell Pittman on Nov. 7, 1953 in Gainesville, Texas. He worked on the Daubes Ranch, the Goddars Ranch and at C.F. Mock and Son near Fargo, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Opal, of the home; two sons, Buddy and wife, Cheryl of Atoka and Kenneth Mills of Hollis; two daughters, Sally Myers and husband, Donnie, and Charlotte Robinson and husband, Donald all of Hollis; a brother, Jack Sparks of Nyssa, Ore.; a sister, Dink Yeaman of Norman, Ok; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Lee Mills, one son, Garland, a granddaughter, Peggy, and one great-granddaughter, Michaela Bower. Pelfrey The Rev. Joe Edwin Pelfrey, 79, died April 13. Services were held April 17 at the Victory Baptist Church in Ft. Myers Fla. He was born March 17, 1922 in Altus to Joseph and Mary Pelfrey. He graduated from Altus High School and Kansas State Teachers College. He then served in the Army Air Force in World War II and was stationed at Buckingham Field in Ft. Myers. He married Barbara DeBolt of Mangum for 57 years. After the war he surrendered to the ministry and graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo. He was the found of the Bible Baptist Church of Elk City. He and his family then moved to Ft. Myers in 1961. He worked as draftsman and was the founding pastor of two churches in Ft. Myers. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; sons, Danny Pelfrey of Avon Park, Fla. and Randy Pelfrey of Bay Minette, Ala. a daughter, Shari Bishop of Tyler, Texas; a brother, Carl Pelfrey of Altus; and a sister, Melba Duncan of Wichita Falls, Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Peyton Eddie Peyton, 66, died early today in Oklahoma City. He was a longtime Altus resident. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Polaski Rose Polaski, 88, died Sunday at Bellview Nursing Center in Oklahoma City. Services will be conducted by Father Ratterman at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greer Funeral Home Chapel in Mangum. Burial will be at the Rock Cemetery at Granite. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home in Mangum. She was born Sept. 28, 1912 in Granite. She graduated from Granite High School, and attended Hills Business College. She worked for several firms in Oklahoma City as a secretary. She worked for Wilson Meats for 35 years. Her hobbies including growing flowers, and working in the yard. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and seven sisters. She is survived by a sister, Alyne Mach of Yukon and many nieces and nephews. Reece L.D. Reece, 67, died Friday at Mangum City Hospital. A graveside service will held for L.D. Reece at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park in Tulsa. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home. He was born April 7, 1933 in Tipton to Ira Johnson and Lauren (Sanderson) Reece. He attended school through the 12th grade. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was a propeller mechanic. During that time, he received a United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. His tour of duty ended May 14, 1954. He married Dorothy Duff on Oct. 27, 1952 in Tulsa. They made their home in Houston. He worked with the space program as a quality control inspector. He received the Medal of Bravery from NASA in 1968 for trying to rescue the Apollo 8 astronauts. He an his wife remained in Houston until eight years ago when they moved to Mangum. He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest child, Christopher Reece and two brothers, Donald W. Reece in 1992 and William J. Reece in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of the home in Mangum; children, Michael J. Reece and Laurel Ann Reece, both of Mangum; two sisters, Louise Galloway of Malay, Texas and Carolyn Peck of Westblomfield, Mich.; two grandchildren, Carrie M. and Megan Reece of Grand Rapids, Mich. She died March 30, 2001 in Altus. She married Hubert Glendon Rose, Oct. 16, 1948 in Vernon, Texas and he preceded her in death. She lived in Jackson County for more than 66 years. She was homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Saults Robert Eugene Saults, Sr., 77, born June 23, 1923 in Andover, VA passed away in Houston, TX, April 14, 2001. "Bill" Wooldridge, Jr., 73, Altus, died Monday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gould Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born June 24, 1927, in McQueen to William H. and Pearl (Marple) Wooldridge. He attended Gould School. He married Maxine Coyle April 15, 1946 in Altus. He was a sergeant in the United States Army, serving in Japan during World War II. He later served in Korea with the 45th Infantry Division. He retired in 1992 from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the DAV and OPEA. He enjoyed sports on television, especial NASCAR racing, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers. Survivors include his wife, Maxine,; five sons, Richard and Glenn Wooldridge of Yuma, Ariz., Jim Wooldridge of Sugarland, Texas, Joe Wooldridge and wife, Liz of Edna, Texas; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Wright Michael Joseph Wright died Friday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans Garden at the Altus City Cemetery. Burial will be under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 28, 1952 in Anderson, Ind. His parents were Joseph Elmer and Mildred Elvira (Golloway) Wright. He grew up and attended Elwood Schools through the 10th grade. He was a member of the school band and choir in both the ninth and 10th grades. He then attended Onarga Military High School in Belleville, Ill. and graduated with honors in June, 1970. He attended McKendree College in St. Louis, Mo. for two years where he studied computer science. On April of 1972, he joined the United States Air Force and after basic training was stationed at Langley AFB in Hampton, Va. In 1976 he married Sharron Van Horn. He was transferred to Grissom AFB, Ind. in July, 1976. He adopted Marcie Van Horn and in 1977 Joe was born. He received orders for Incirlik Air Base, near Adana, Turkey in 1980. He and his family spent the next two years there and returned to the United States in June of 1982. They moved to Olustee when Michael was stationed at Altus Air Force Base and he worked in the 443rd Supply Squadron. Michael and Sharron bought a cafe in September, 1984 and named it "The Wright Place Cafe." In 1989 the cafe was closed after five years of operation. On Aug. 22, 1991, he married Jarine Howard and the made their home in Altus with her three children, Jenniffer, Christy and Mathew. He retired in April, 1992 after 20 years service with the Untied States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. Some of his awards included: Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four Bronze Oak Leafs, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Air Force Training Ribbon. Since his retirement he has enjoyed repairing and building muzzleloader guns and assembling models. Michael also enjoyed speeding time with his family and horseback riding. He attended the Olustee Baptist Church and was a member of the Olustee Lions Club, the Red River Riding Club and Muzzleloaders Club. He was preceded in death by; his parents and grandparents. Survivors include his wife, Jarine, Altus; former wife, Sharron M. Suskie of Olustee; a son, Michael Joseph Wright II, Altus; a daughter, Marcie M. Gregg, Bethany; two step-daughters, Jennifer J. and Christ D. Howard, Swink, Okla.; a step-son, Mathew R. Rowland, Jacksonville, Fla.; a grandson Shawn Gregg of Bethany and two aunts.
