She was born Oct. 8, 1917 in Bedford, Texas to Logan and Maude (May) Reeves. After moving to Oklahoma she married Floyd M. Allen on Nov. 7, 1936 in Altus. They lived in Altus for 32 years before moving to Richardson . She was a member of the Richardson East Church of Christ and worked at Texas Instruments for five years Survivors include her husband, Floyd; a son, Keith Allen of Lindale, Texas; a daughter, Judy Reeves of Abilene, Texas; a sister, Virginia Burns, of Harlingen, Texas; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Barnes Dicky Allen Barnes, 58, died Saturday at his home in Hollis. Services were held this afternoon at the Hollis Church of Christ with Bob Carson officiating. Burial followed at Fairmount Cemetery. Services are under the direction Stewart Funeral Services. He was born July 8, 1942 in Houston, Texas to Harry D. and Lorene Foster Barnes. He lived in Hollis all his life and was a member of the Dodson Church of Christ. He married Ann Moss on Aug. 9, 1959 in Childress, Texas. He was an independent truck driver and a third generation house mover, operating Barnes House Moving until 1984. Survivors include his wife, Ann of the family home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shura and Steven Lindgren of Midland, Texas and Leah and Russell Hammon of Anderson, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, David and DeAnna Barnes of Woodville, Texas; his mother, Lorene Barnes; two brothers, Bobby Barnes of Hollis and Tommy Barnes of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Jason Lindgren Tiffany Glover, Bailey Hamm, Dallas Barnes, Levi Jones and Peyton Barnes. Basaldua Ryan Isaac Basaldua died Thursday at Chapel Hill, N.C. Services are pending at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Brown Paul C. Brown, 89, of Watson Court, N.M., died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Carlsbad Medical Center. No services were held. Brown was born May 29, 1911, to Dr. Roderick Franklin and Sarah E. Smith Brown in Brandenburg, Ky. He grew up in Altus. During World War II, he was the director of flying at Victory Air Field in Vernon, Texas. In 1949, he married June Slater Parker in Carlsbad. From 1947 to 1953, he lived in Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked as a private pilot. In 1953, he moved to Carlsbad where he owned and operated several service stations for 19 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Brown. Survivors include: his wife June of Carlsbad, N.M.; a daughter, Sara Marshall of Holly Springs, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Kay Adkins of Lubbock, Texas; two grandsons; one step grandson and three great grandsons. Call MANGUM-LaDona M. Call, 97, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Mangum City Hospital. Funeral services are set for 9:30 a.m. Friday at Central Christian Church in Mangum with the Rev. Ron Davenport officiating. Interment will be at Caddo City Cemetery at 4:30 p.m. in Caddo. Call was born June 9, 1903, in Ochiltree, Texas, to William and Sarah McCarty. As a child, she moved with her family, to Tecumseh. She attended school there, graduating in 1922. She began teaching school in Caddo County at Post Oak School. In 1923, she married T.D. Call in Cyril. He preceded her in death in March of 1947. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cyril. She moved to Blair in 1955, and then to Mangum, making her home their in 1984. She loved children and during the course of her lifetime, gave care for 250 foster children. Call was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and seven brothers and sisters. Survivors include: her children, Sara Sue Poynor of Casper, Wyo.; Dave Call of Willis, Texas and an adopted son, Clarence Clay of Tyler, Texas; a brother, Nydeen Eiden of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Tipton Children's Home. Cansler William Douglas Cansler, 63, of Altus, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at his home, following a lengthy illness. The family will respect his wishes and no memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice. Cansler was born March 10, 1937, in Cleveland, Tenn., to Essie Eugenia and Cansler. He married Rosie Marie Hughes on Jan. 17, 1964, at the McConnell Air Force Base Chapel, near Wichita, Kan. He retired from the Air Force on Sept. 28, 1982, after 20 years of service to his country. After his retirement, he began a 15-year career at Wal-Mart, working in the electronics department. Cansler and his family moved to Altus in 1978 from California. He loved old western movies and his favorite past-time was fishing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Essie Eugenia Broyles; his father, Kermit Cansler; his step-father, James Blair and one brother, Walt Blair. Survivors include: his wife of 36 years, Rosie Marie Cansler; one son, William Cansler, Jr.; two daughters, Stacy Cansler and Shannon Cansler; one grandson, Garrett Cansler, all of the home; one brother, James Blair, Jr., Cleveland, Tenn. and four sisters, Linda Tibbs, Ruth Cox, Phyllis Blair and Mary Blair, all of Cleveland, Tenn. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Greer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Houston officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens in Sacramento, Calif. Carlile was born Aug. 19, 1911, to Frank Hillary and Esther Almedie (Griffin) Byers in Ada. At an early age, her family traveled to California to make their home. She later married Nathan Edward Carlile. He preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Hazel Burnett; a son, Donald Carlile; four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include: a son and daughter, Carol Kerbo of Mangum and Nathan Carlile of Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Chambers Ernest Louis Chambers died Monday at his residence in Altus at the age of 58. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Altus with Sonny Tims officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Huntington. W. Va. to Washington and Helen (Head) Chambers. He married Catherine Carroll Jan. 12, 1974. He served in the United States Air Force. He was employed in maintenance at the Southwest Technology Center in Altus for the past several years. He lived in Altus for more than 30 years. He was talented musician and the director of sound for Sunday School lessons at the First Baptist Church where he was a member. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Chambers, of the family home: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Ruth McBride of Austin, Texas, Christopher Chambers of Amarillo and Erin and Susie Chambers of Altus; a brother, Richard Chambers of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Lance Simpson and Joseph Crutchfield and Emily Zimmerman and many friends. He preceded in death by his parents. Christian Alvin H. Christian departed this life August 28, 2000 at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2000, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Reverend Robert Bostic officiating and Reverend Thomas Hanes assisting. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The oldest of six sons, Alvin was born October. 21, 1936 in Hawkins, Texas to Alvin and Pauline Christian. He served in the United States Air Force from November, 1955 until his retirement on January 1, 1980, as Aircraft Accessory Systems Superintendent. Al graduated Manual Training High School in Muskogee and later received his associate's degree from Western Oklahoma State College. He received a bachelor's degree in History from Cameron University where he was listed on Who's Who among College Students. He was a charter member in the Alpha Alpha Kappa Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta (International Historical Honor Society). Volunteerism was a very important part of his life and he served his community faithfully in this capacity. Just a few of his services are as follows: He served two years as Chairman of the North Jackson County Neighborhood Group and represented the group on the Community Action Board of Directors for three years. He was a member and served as Chairman of the Jackson County Senior Council, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Jackson County Crime Stoppers, Inc. Al was also a member of the Great Plains Literacy Council serving as Vice Chairman and founded the African American Leadership Council (an organization for men). One of his greatest pleasures in life, was working with the youth. He served as a member and treasurer of the Jackson County Youth Development Council and actively participated on the Substance Abuse Committee of the Council. He was the organizer and sponsor of the Shades of Ebony (a youth group) and an organizer and co-sponsor of Jackson County Teens Against Drugs Club. He worked diligently in starting and sponsoring the Altus Junior High Leo Club, which had become another love of his life. He was employed by the Department of Human Services, and a few years ago retired from the Southwest Oklahoma Development Authority. Al married Natlyn Pratt, May 20, 1995 at St. John Baptist Church where he was an active member, served as deacon, and sang in the men's choir. He was a devoted family man. He loved his wife and children and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was also an avid fisherman. Al has received many awards for his dedication to Lionism and his community. The awards include: Lion of the Year from his home club, Lion International President Certifcate of Appreciation, Leo Sponsor Service Award for his work with the Altus Junior High Leo Club and the highest award that can be bestowed on a Lion, The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Al was elected Governor for district 3;L of the International Association of Lions Clubs for the year 1999-2000. His motto for Lionism was "Lionism Is A Feeling, Get The Feeling." Alvin H. Christian leaves to cherish memory, his wife, Natlyn, of the home in Altus; one daughter, Felicia Christian Hodges and step-daughter, A'Lyce Pratt; grandchildren, Jonathan Christian-Hodges and An'Quinette Hodges; five brothers, James E. He married Ann Johnson and they moved to Mangum from Elk City in 1981. They owned and operated Joe and Ann's Restaurant to Mangum for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Ann of Mangum; a son, Stanley Ray Clayton of Colo.; a brother, Luther L. Clayton of Tejeria N.M. a sister, Marie Woods, of Bel Air, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. Creecy Grace Florene Gee Creecy, 67, Eldorado, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Woodlands, Texas. Visitation will be at the Kincannon Chapel in Eldorado. Creecy was born May 13, 1933, in Montague, Texas, to Earl Nathan and Thelma Florene (Welch) Gee. She graduated from Olustee High School and was married to Lowery Taylor Walker for 22 years. She worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 20 years, until her retirement in 1994. She was also a licensed beautician since 1967 and worked for H&R Block. She loved to travel, visit family and friends and helping care for the sick. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldorado. Creecy was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Tommy Taylor Walker; a daughter, Jeanetta Diane Walker and both parents. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Derryberry was born in Saint Jo, Montague County, Texas, on April 26, 1900. She had lived most of her life in the Fletcher and Apache areas. She moved from Apache to Gulfport, Miss., in 1985, and had been a resident of Pass Christian for 10 years. She was a homemaker and caregiver for her family and was a gardener, seamstress and quiltmaker. She was a member of the Oak Street Church of Christ in Apache. Derryberry was preceded in death by her parents, W.F. and Rebecca Derryberry; brothers, Luther, Earl and Oscar Derryberry; her twin sister, Ruby Jolly; another sister, Rose Brown; nephews, L.J. Lolly and Lowell Derryberry; a niece, Faye Rollo; three great nephews; one great niece and one great-great niece. Duvall Willie Monroe Duvall, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Altus City Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating. Duvall was born March 9, 1917, in Ladonia, Texas, to Elmer Leroy and Minnie Lee (Tickle) Duvall. He married Pauline Ruth Duke in Mangum on March 9, 1946. He was a member of the Army during World War II and was awarded a Silver Star and the EAME Theatre Ribbon. He was a seismographer for several oil companies and was also a truck driver of Lee Way for a number of years. He was a member of the Local Teamsters Union #886 and the American Legion. Duvall enjoyed fishing, sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, E.L. Duvall, Jr. and two sisters, Opal Rabalais and Katherine Duvall. Edwards Lee Roy Edwards, 76, Oklahoma City, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2000, in an Oklahoma City hospital. Funeral services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home of Altus. Evans Evelyn C. Evans, 87, died Aug. 16, 2000 at her home in Colleyville, Texas. Graveside services will be Saturday, Aug. 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. She was born Feb. 2, 1913 in Eastview to Bedford Forest and Josie Burnett. She taught school for many years. After teaching in Carter, Cordell and Dill City she moved to Texas and taught school in White Deer and Skellytown. In 1978 she and her husband Bill moved to Hurst where she was a substitute teacher before retiring. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, and spent many hours crocheting and doing needlework. She was a member of Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband W.H. (Bill) Evans, brother Weldon Burnett, grandson Andrew Evans, and great grandson Christopher Koran. She was elected a freeholder to help write the new charter for the City of Altus. She was a member of That Altus Band, and a long time member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. Perry Snell appointed her as the first woman manager of United Supermarkets. She served in several capacities at United including produce manager, baker and deli manager, assistant manager of Bunker Hill United for 12 years, manager of United in Snyder for 2 1/2 years. Garcia Ignasia Garcia, Olustee, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, at the age of 74. Interment will be at Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Garcia was born April 18, 1926, in Reynosa, Mexico, to Richardo and Patricia Trevino. She married Perfecto Garcia on May 15, 1955, in Buckeye, Ariz. She moved from Friendship to Olustee in 1960. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Perfecto Garcia II, one son and one daughter. Survivors include: four daughters, Ofelia Cordero of Lodi, Calif., Mary Lou Garcia of Dallas, Josephine Smith, Altus and Lily Wolfe of Omaha, Neb.; eight sons, Perfecto Garcia III, Altus, Richard Garcia, Randy Garcia and Rudy Garcia, all of Olustee, Ruben Garcia of Altus, Robert Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, Roy Garcia of Phoenix, Ariz. and Ray Garcia of Granite; 40 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. Garren Katie Lavesta Hazel Johnson Garren, 85, died at her home in Eldorado August 22, 2000. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Eldorado Cemetery with Billy Hall officiating. Arrangments are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Garren was born July 19, 1915 in Lakeview, Texas. She was the daughter of Joseph Porter and Lula Katie (Stephens) Johnson. She married Marion Albert Garren in 1934 in Memphis, Texas. They were married for 48 years until his death in August 1982. She worked outside the home until she was 70. She and her husband were farmers and later owners and operators of the Garren Ice Plant. Her career also included employment at the E&E Cafe, Brownlow Boat Company, Bob Thomas Manufacturing, and DeLong Cap Company. She was a longtime member of the Nazarene Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, Mary Michelle Glenn, a sister Lorene Johnson George and one brother, Ben Johnson. Survivors include her son Monte Carroll Garren, Eldorado; daughter Sheri Lea Millar, Clemson, South Carolina; brother J.P. Goodwin Arthur Goodwin, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, two days before is 84th birthday. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Pate officiating. Interment will follow at Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The family will receive guests from 7 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Goodwin grew up near Altus and graduated from Altus High School in 1934. After attending college for two years, he entered the Army Air Force and served four years as an aircraft maintenance technician during World War II. During that time, he met and married Dorothy Hunter. He then returned to Altus to help run the family farm. A daughter, Jane, and a son, Lynn, were born to Goodwin and his wife. She preceded him in death in 1966. He married Willa Lee (Caster) Hines on Sept. 13, 1968, and in doing so, acquired three more daughters and another son. He spent the remainder of his life farming and caring for family and friends. Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents, Lynford A. Goodwin and Amy Josephine (Cobb) Goodwin; one brother, L.A., Jr. and a brother and sister-in-law, Emerson and Mona Goodwin; a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Harry Ellis and his wife Dorothy. Haas died Friday, July 29, 2000, at his home. Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home. Haas was born March 15, 1925, in a farmhouse near Sickles. He was raised on the farm by his parents, Albert and Icy (Cox) Haas. He married Florence Marie McCumber in 1950. Two sons were born to the couple, Dick and Jimmy Haas. His wife died in 1962, leaving him to raise his two sons. He married Faye Byrd on Nov. 23, 1990, in Vernon, Texas. He was a lifelong farmer and his hobby was working in his flower garden. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus. Survivors include: his wife Faye, of the home; two sons, Dick Haas and wife Paula and Jimmy Haas, all of Altus; three stepsons, Dr. Bill Byrd and wife Cindy of Amarillo, Texas, Dr. Bruce Byrd and wife Patty of Taos, N.M. and Danny Byrd and wife Bridgett of Canyon, Texas; four granddaughters, Shasta Brooking and husband Keith, of Tipton, Ericka Wiginton and husband Chad of Nashville, Tenn., Destiny Drury and Jamie Haas of Altus; one great granddaughter, Kirbi Brooking, Tipton; three step granddaughters, Katy Byrd of Amarillo, Brittany Van and Bailey Byrd of Canyon; one sister, Margie Smith of Hinton; two brothers, Bill Haas of Oklahoma City and Ronnie Haas of San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Altus. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ernest Watley, Glen High and Alton High. Jenkins Mark Jenkins, 42, died at Norman Regional Hospital on Sunday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church at University and Apache Streets in Norman, with the Rev. Keith Wiginton of Altus officiating. He was a 1976 graduate of Altus High School. He earned an associates degree from Western Oklahoma State College in Altus and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He lived in Norman since 1978 and owned and operated Jenkins Automotive Co. for the past seven years. He married Rene Bingham in 1994 in Grove. Survivors include his wife, Rene of Norman; his mother, Marilyn and her husband David Kroll of Altus; his father, James Jenkins and his wife Pat of Altus; his father-in-law, Bing Bingham of Oklahoma City; a brother, Randy Jenkins of Yukon; a sister, Tamara Sharp of Tipton; and several nieces and nephews. Leonard Archie D. Leonard, 78, long time Duke area farmer, died Sunday in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Duke with the Rev. Lovett Dorotha Lovett was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Hess, to T.H. and Ella M. (Black) Steen. She died Aug. 16, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, at the age of 72. She was a member of the International Toast Mistresses, the American Federation of Government Employees and the Silver Saints. She was preceded in death by her parents. After living in Texas, Virginia, California, Hawaii and Colorado. he and his wife moved back to Mangum in 1986, He was a member of the First Baptist Church. McDaniel Newell Grant McDaniel, 87, died Sunday at his home in Hollis. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Hollis Church of Christ with Eddie Littrell officiating. Survivors include his wife, Doris McWhorter, Altus; a daughter, Mary Beth Eichel of California and three grandchildren. Milton James R. "Jimmy" Milton, 79, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at his home. Milton was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Altus, to Leslie Hamilton and Edith Marie (Hardisty) Milton. He married Kathryn Ray in Altus on Nov. 9, 1947. He was a graduate of Altus High School in 1938. He was selected by his teachers as outstanding senior boy. He was a member of the Army and the Air Force. He was a pilot and commanding officer as well as being a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Milton had obtained the rank of Captain and was awarded an American Theatre Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. Milton was a member of the 245th Tank Battalion Association, was active in planning and promoting of reunions. He worked for Shell Oil Company and later became self employed, owning Mobil Oil distributorship. He enjoyed water skiing, watching sports and swimming. He was preceded in death by parents; a sister, Marcella Schuler and his grandparents, George and Kathleen Milton. She later attended Tillman County Junior College and worked during the war for Tire Board. She married Mack O. Pace in September of 1948 in Lake Tahoe, Nev. After her marriage, she worked for Hobart McCord Implement Company for several years. Later she and her husband moved to Chicago where she worked for Gould Manufacturing Company as a accountant and later moved up as controller of the company. Her husband preceded her in death in 1977. She returned to Frederick and was honored as Frederick's Most Useful Citizen in 1983. Pace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mack; her brother, Doc Clark and a nephew, Mike Clark. Patterson Ora Mae Patterson died Friday at her home in Norman one month short of her 93rd birthday. They farmed, and she was a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death. In June of 1990, she married Walter Pietz. They made their home in Granite. She was a protestant and an active member of the Senior Citizens of Granite. She often helped with the RSVP Meals on Wheels Program. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Jack Shannon. He worked in trucking, for a dairy, Greer County, the City of Mangum and was self-employed in the lawn care business. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Asa Smith Funeral Home in Harrah. Interment will follow at the Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Southside Baptist Church in Altus. Tennison had lived in Harrah since 1980, and for the past one and a half years, had made his home in Altus. He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Wellington, Kan., to William Harlen Fred and Dorothea Lawanna (Ray) Tennison. His great grandparents had moved from Illinois to Indian Territory in June of 1881. He married Mamie Margrete Shackelford on April 20, 1948, in Fort Smith, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 1994. Tennison was a World War II veteran who served in the 82nd Naval Construction Battalion (SeaBees) and was awarded the American and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medals, the World War II Victory Medal and four bronze stars. He retired in 1989 from truck driving. He loved to fish, play dominoes and tell a good joke. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Gladys Lawanna; one son, Patrick Wayne and brothers, Wallace Lee, Gene, and David Leonard. Survivors include: daughters, Margaret Charlene Davis, Altus, Mary Catherine and her husband Leroy Smith of Harra and son Floyd Wayne Jim Tennison of Oceanside, Calif; brother William Ray Tennison and wife Shirley of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters and their husbands, Betty June and Scott Holtman, Kearns, Utah and Barbara Faye and William Ruffner of California; brother-in-law and wife John M. and Donna Kay Shackelford of Muskogee; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Blanche and John Ashwood and Dorothy and Bob Balasan of Muskogee and Geraldine Shackelford of Fort Gibson; and grandchildren, Michael C. Green, Altus, Christopher J. and Christen J. Tennison, Oceanside, Calif. and Rachel M. and John C. Smith of Harrah. Townsend Russell Edgar Townsend, 81, Chickasha, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Chickasha. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Townsend was born June 25, 1919, in Altus, to Henry and Henrietta (Reid) Townsend. He graduated from Friendship High School in 1938. He married Frances Davis on May 28, 1939, in Chickasha. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Townsend moved to Chickasha in 1941 from Altus. He served in the Army from 1944 until 1945. He was a truck driver for Transcon Freight Lines for 38 years. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Townsend and a great granddaughter, Jordan Elizabeth Souders. Survivors include: his wife, Frances Townsend of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Souders of Pocasset; five sons and their wives, Russell and Ann Townsend of Mustang, Henry and Reba Townsend of Friend, Melvin and Norma Townsend of Amber, David and Karen Townsend of Mustang and Curtis and Meredith Townsend of Chickasha; three brothers, Harvey Townsend of Kemp, Texas, Charles Townsend of Oklahoma City and Melton Townsend of Clinton; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Vann Frances Ellonor Vann, 79, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. today at the Warren Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Osborne officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Vann was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Warren, to Albert and Dora (Berry) Biddy. She was baptized in the river east of Warren and joined the First Baptist Church of Warren at an early age. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing in 1942. She served in the Air Force Nursing Corp during World War II. She served 15 months overseas in Army hospitals. In 1950, Frances graduated from Panhandle State with a degree in home economics. She spent 40 years in nursing and teaching. She retired Dec. 31, 1982. Vann was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Mike Vann in 1988. Survivors include: two daughters, Karen Cuselich and her husband Marvin of Belle Chase, La. and Mona Sherrill and her husband Tom of Lubbock, Texas; one sister, Oleta Hall of Altus; two brothers, Ben Biddy of Stratford, Texas and Ray Biddy of Warren; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Van Vacter Grace Van Vacter, 92, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at Grace Living Center in Mangum. She was a longtime resident of Mangum. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Mangum with Eddie Beard officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home. Van Vacter was born Feb. 23, 1908, in Beckham County, to John Thomas and Nancy Belle (Rogers) Copp. She married Bill Van Vacter on Dec. 21, 1927, in Sayre. They farmed and ranched from 1927 until 1962. Her husband was a professional rodeo performer, featuring cowboy skills and competitions. She was an avid fan. They traveled during this time all over the United States. Her husband preceded her in death in March of 1980. She worked for C.R. Anthony and Jack Cossey's Pharmacy. Besides working, she loved to garden, raising produce to can and raising prize winning roses. Other interests at which she was skilled were sewing and being involved in politics. She also helped care for her grandson, Patrick McAlister. Grace was a member of the Church of Christ of Mangum. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and seven brothers and sisters. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jerry Pat McAlister of Frederick; a grandson, Patrick Van McAlister of Amarillo, Texas and several nephews and nieces. Wagnon Leonard J. Wagnon, 72, died Saturday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Altus City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born April 4, 1928 in Elmer to Leonard J. and Gladys Wagnon. He attended Harmony School. He worked for Phillips Petroleum in Borger, Texas from 1950 until his retirement in 1972. He also owned a used car lot and farmed in the Olustee area. His hobbies included working on cars and fishing. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Gary Lane of Cherokee Valley, Ark.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and June Wagnon of Altus and Terry and Sue Wagnon of Dallas; three sisters, Norma West of Lubbock, Texas, Evelyn Hestand of Altus and Lonnie Muse; a brother, F.M. Wagnon; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Walker Edward Lee Walker, 73, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at his home in Granite, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home. Officiating will be Arol Steverson and Allen Garret. Walker was born March 8, 1927, in Wild Cat, near the Russell Community. His parents were Evan and Willie (Halliman) Walker. He attended grade school at Wild Cat and high school in Central View. He began a military career with the Navy in 1942, serving during World War II. He retired as boatswain's mate second class in 1962. In 1947, he married Nina Rhodes at Norfolk, Va. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1997. He was a member of the Granite Police Department from 1970 until 1983. He also worked as a security guard for the Girl Scout Camp in Granite for nine years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother and a sister. Survivors include: his children, Terri Esparza and her husband Victor of Granite, Ricky Lee Walker of Oklahoma City and Vickie Louise Walker of Altus.
