Services were held Saturday at Epworth Parker United Methodist Church of Houston with Paul Whitlatch, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Altus City Cemetery with Roger Deerinwater officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City, Texas. He was born April 17, 1915 in Olustee to Fred Everett Belt and Eatha Laura Prater Belt. He was a resident of Houston from 1936 until 1942 when he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and returned to Houston in 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Asiatic. He was employed as a supervisor in retail food sales until his retirement, and then worked with his daughter and son-in-law, in their business. He was a Mason and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include daughter Sherry Withthrow and husband Jim of Stafford, Texas; three grandchildren, Sheila Lynn Mathews and husband Jim of Carlsbad, Calif., Lisa Annette Walker and husband Ronnie of LaPorte, Texas, J. Paul Withrow and wife Karen, of Sugar Land, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Alysha Nichole Walker, James Richard Walker, Jessica Paige Withrow, John Bennett Withrow, and William Paul Withrow. Byrd Ben Byrd, 79, longtime Altus businessman, died early Thursday morning in his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ with Bill Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born Oct. 10, 1922 to B.C. and Lillian (Johnston) Byrd in Stonewall. His father died when he was just three weeks old. He was raised by his mother and step-father, John Nickell. He attended Eastview School in Greer County and graduated in 1941. He served in the United States Air Force 349th Air Division in the European Theater. He was stationed at DIS Airfield in Norfolk, England. He married Helen Ruth Griffis on Dec. 1, 1945 in Norman. To this union, four sons were born. He attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a bachelors degree in business administration in 1948. He worked as a public accountant for many years in Altus. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ and served as an Elder for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, son David Lon Byrd, and brothers Leon, Jesse and Kenneth Nickell. He is survived by his wife Helen of 56 years; sons Benjamin C. Byrd III of Carlisle, Mass., C. Paul Byrd and wife Darlene of Silver Spring, Md and Tim Byrd and wife Lisa of Ryan; sister Mary Potter of Burleson, Texas and brother Joe Nickel and wife Jody of Turlock, Calif. and five grandchildren, Drew, Christopher, Kelsey, Cameron and Zoe Byrd. Farley Cordie Farley, 86, died Friday. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Harkins Jeffrey Blake Harkins, 26, died Thurs-day at Jackson County Memorial Hospital after battling cancer bravely for more than 11 years. Services were held Saturday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Osborne and T.J. Willingham officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was a 1994 graduate of Altus High School and attended Western Oklahoma State College. While in high school he was active in FFA and played baseball. He was a member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ. Survivors include his mother and father, Joe and Linda Harkins of Altus; grandmothers Audean Helms and Bonnie White; great-grandmother Lizzie McCown; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by sister Jennifer Harkins and by grandfathers Leonard White and C.B. Harkins. Thurmond Henrietta Thurmond, 70, Altus, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel in Kincannon Funeral Home with the Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 7, 1931 at Friendship to James Henry and Gertrude N. (McMillan) Boaz. She married J.C. Thurmond on March 28, 1949, in Wichita Falls, Texas. To this union five children were born. She worked with her husband and family in the harvesting business. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Pauline Peirce and granddaughter Sonja Mitchell. She is survived by her husband J.C. of 53 years; daughters Denise Sabol of Cleveland, Ohio, Pam Thurmond of Warner Robins, Ga. and Penny Locke and husband Dan of Warner Robbins, Ga.; sons Raymond Thurmond and wife Dianna of Altus and Ty Thurmond and wife Ann of Roosevelt; sister Judy Miller and husband Jack of Big Lake, Texas; brothers Don Boaz of Denver, Colo. and Raymond Boaz of Tulsa; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many friends. JUNE 3: Farley Cordie Farley, 86, died Friday in Grand Prairie, Texas. Services have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Eldorado. Sonny Tims will officiate and interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. She was born Nov. 2, 1915 to Abner and Lenora Barn in Breckenridge, Texas. She married Ted E. Bennett in 1934 in Mangum. Two children were born to this union. They lived in Eldorado until 1955 and moved to Altus where she and her family resided for four years. After a few more moves, they came back to the Eldorado area until 1984. She then moved a few more times before going to Grand Prairie, Texas to be near her daughter. After her first husband died she returned to school in 1953 and graduated from Eldorado High School. She became a dietitian at Jackson County Memorial Hospital and also worked as a dietitian at the Altus Air Force Base NCO Club for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. In 1960, she married Thomas E. Farley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, in 1952, her second husband, Thomas Farley in 1990, and one granddaughter, Kandi Bennett Mays. She is survived by her daughter Nelda and husband Billy McGuyer; son Jerry and wife Lana Bennett; three grandchildren, Robert Mark Wesley, Michael Wesley and J.J. Bennett; six great-grandchildren and two sisters, Adell Olsteen and Wilma Patterson. Gregory Selma Gregory, 89, formerly of Eldorado, died in Austin, Texas on May 31. Memorial services were conducted Monday at Cook-Walden Funeral Chapel with Troy Singelton, minister of the Jolleyville, Texas Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was held at Austin Memorial Cemetery. She was born to Hattie McAnear McKinley and Jerry McKinley at Warren, June 27, 1912. She married James (Judge) Gregory at Altus on May 16, 1930. The Gregorys moved from Eldorado to Wolfforth, Texas in 1954. She retired from the Texas Tech University book store in Lubbock as supervisor of the engineering department after 20 years of service. After retiring she moved with her husband to Austin in 1977. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by three children, Garland Gregory and wife Sandra of Lubbock, Texas, YuVonna Davis and husband Bud of Childress, Texas and Karon Watson of Austin; six grandchildren, Gary Gregory, Glen Gregory, Jana Davis-Sanders, Gregory M. Davis, all of Lubbock, Kevin Watson and Keith Watson, both of Austin; great-grandchildren Joshua Gregory Sanders, Michael Gregory Davis, Stephen S. Houston Funeral services for James "Buster" Edward Houston, 46, of Celeste, Texas will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Celeste. The Rev. James Ralson will officiate and cremation will follow. He died Saturday in Hunt County, Texas. Taylor Funeral Home of Leonard, Texas. He was born Aug. 16, 1955 in Altus, the son of James Loftis Houston and Wanda Sue Houston. He married DeAnna Carol Wood on Feb. 19, 1989. He was a painter and carpenter. He is survived by his wife Deanna Tiller Houston of Celeste; son Chad Edward Houston of Altus; daughters Elizabeth Carol Tiller and Laura Elaine Tiller, both of Celeste; sisters Carrie Ann Houston of Portland, Ore., Tammy Irene Hays of Altus and Kathy Sue Houston of Portland; brothers Jimmy Dale Houston of Portland, Mikey Ray Houston of Powderly, Texas, and Sammy Lawrence of Houston of Cabot, Ark. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, Texas with Elder Dale A. Brown officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Altus City Cemetery. She was born Dec. 25, 1939 at Humphreys to Joe Bill and Euda Lois Good. She was raised in Humphreys and graduated from Altus High School. She married Olen Mack Brock in Humphreys on Oct. 5, 1956. After moving to Midland, Texas she received her secretarial certification from Midland College. She was employed by Alexander & Alexander, Midland Christian School and Casa De Amigos. She was a member of the Golf Court Church of Christ, Republican Women's Club and Midland Women's China Painting Club. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Olen Brock; sons Dan M. and wife Claire and Lance D., all of Midland; sister Janice Sue Hatton and husband Carl; brother Randy Hagood; grandchildren Tim, Jeff and Jacklyn Brock and numerous nieces and nephews. Claiborne Allen Benson Claiborne, 85 of Oklahoma City, died Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the Mayfair Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will follow at the Memorial Park in Edmond. Services are under the direction of Baggerley Funeral Home, Edmond. He was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Quanah, Texas. He was the youngest of nine children. He was a 1937 graduate of Altus High School. He had many business interests early in his life including a trucking business and serving on the Home Front during World II with the Sante Fe Railroad. After the war, he and his family returned to Altus where he returned to the trucking business. In 1953, he joined the Luderson Independent Insurance Agency where he soon became a partner. He was active in the Lions Club where he served as president of the local club, district governor and the chairman of the International Board of Governors. He served three terms as mayor of Altus during the 1950's. It was during that time that Altus was named an All-American city. He also served as an elder at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ in Altus for many years. In 1967 he became the Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma executive vice-president. He retired from his career in 1982. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Edrye Hunter; daughter Floy and husband Lanny Smith of Austin, Texas and their two children Lanny Jay of Austin and J.C. of Seattle, Wash.; daughter Suzy Thrash and sons Jim and wife Julie of Tulsa, Lee and wife Jennifer of Oklahoma City; sister Bobbie Telford of Odessa, Texas; great-grandsons Jay and Jamey Smith; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jimmie Thrash. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Jimmie Thrash Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Central Oklahoma or the American Parkinson's Disease Association. Southall Cecil Albert Southall, 85, of Madera, Calif., died Thursday, May 30, at a Madera hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Sunset Avenue Church of Christ, 600 Orchard Ave., followed by a graveside service at Arbor Vitae Cemetery. Jay Chapel is assisting the family. He had been a Madera resident for 40 years. He was born in Blair. He was a veteran of World War II, in which he served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a flight instructor for pilots of twin engine aircraft. He worked for the Madera Unified School District for 11 years. He was a member of the Sunset Avenue Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Southall of Madera; sons Randy Southall and wife Della of Madera and Larry Southall and wife Janet of McMinnville, Ore.; daughters Annette Williams and husband Jeff of Bakersfield, and Karen Korwin of Los Altos; sisters, Elizabeth Kelley of Altus; Nell Markum of San Juan Capistrano and Doyle Norton of Mira Loma; brother Windle Southall of Blair; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Jay Chapel, 1121 Roberts Ave. JUNE 5: Griffis Hubert Griffis, 84, died at the Mangum City Hospital Tuesday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Willow Church of Christ with Roger Todd, Mangum Church of Christ and Jim Foster, Willow Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at the Brinkman Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home. He was born Nov. 30, 1917, at Brinkman, the son of W.F. and Minnie Pearl (Manning) Griffis. He graduated from Eastview High School in 1937, then attended Mangum Junior College. He was attending college at Weatherford when he was drafted into the service. He was in the artillery branch of the Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific and the Aleutian Islands. Following the service, he returned home and taught at Plainview before going into farming. He farmed in the Eastview area for more than 50 years. He married Emma Jean Harris on Aug. 31, 1946 at Wellington, Texas. To this union, four children were born. He was a longtime member of the Willow Church of Christ and the American Legion. He enjoyed farming, playing dominoes and his grandchildren. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and John Norman of Lawton and Sharon and Lonnie Dean of Mangum; two sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Pam of Granite and Ted Joe and Nancy, Clarksville, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Morris and Era, Willow; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Byrd, Altus, Bonita McDonald, Odessa, Texas and Juanita and Wilburn Hood, Willow; grandchildren Eugene and Corina Dean, J.J. and Casey Estep, Sara Griffis, Katy Griffis and Jordan Griffis and several nieces and nephews including Madonna and Red Williams, who were also special friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Jean in 1996, his parents, brother Othel and sister Willa Mae. Pennel Funeral services for Addison Douglas Pennel, 7, of Verden will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Verden First Baptist Church. He died Monday in Oklahoma City. He was born May 19, 1995 at Chickasha to Jimmie and Angela (Fiske) Pennel. He lived in Verden all of his life. He was a kindergarten student and a member of the Triumphant Church in Mangum. Smith C.L. Smith, 73, Eldorado, died Tuesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday at the Corinth Baptist Church near Eldorado with the Rev. Mark Farr officiating. Burial will follow services at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born June 13, 1928, in Eldorado to Cephas and Ada Ellen (Burnett) Smith. He graduated from Eldorado School in 1946. He served in the Army Air Force for one year. After he returned home, he attended and graduated from Cullinary College of Virginia in 1948. He was an Executive Master Chef for more than 30 years at various locations in the Chicago, Ill. area such as Saint Paul's University and the Palmer Hotel. He married Celestina Lopez on Aug. 27, 1962 in Oaklawn, Ill. He was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church, the Chefs of Cuisine of Chicago, the Chefs of Cuisine of USA, the Eldorado Historical Society, the Lions Club of Flossmore, Ill, the American Legion of Mangum and the Arabian Horse Association. He enjoyed working cattle, showing Arabian Stallions and spending time with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Cletas Smith and sisters Thiela Joy Smith and Verdene Miller. He is survived by his wife of the home; stepdaughter Deborah Singer and husband Nicholas, St. Louis, Mo.; son Cephas Smith, Chester, Ill.; step-son Lionel Brashares and wife Fran, Peotone, Ill.; sisters Leta Rue Perkins and husband James, Montgomery, Ala.; Laverta Lewis and husband Bud, Medford, N.H.; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. JUNE 6: Aldridge Gerald "Jerry" C. Aldridge, Sr. 76, died Monday in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Cleburne, Texas Memorial Park. He was born June 19, 1925 in Gallatin, Tenn. to Thomas and Ella Aldridge. He was a long time resident of Forth Worth, Texas where he owned several clubs and businesses. He is survived by his wife Alice Aldridge of Altus; sons Chad Aldridge of Dallas, Marcus Aldridge of Honolulu, Jerry Aldridge, Jr. of Alvarado, Texas, James Aldridge of Ranger, Texas and Jason Aldridge of Fort Worth; daughters Janet Trompler and husband David of Burleson, Texas and Linda Allen and husband Jimmie of Waco, Texas; 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Tony Aldridge. JUNE 7: Burns Richard Garland Burns, 65, Altus, died May 28, at Grace Living Center in Altus. Graveside services are scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. in the veterans section of the Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born Oct. 5, 1936 in El Monte, Calif. He served in the United State Marine Corp. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He worked for many years as a maintenance engineer. He had been a resident of Grace Living Center for several years. JUNE 9: Jones Mary Marie Jones, 65, Altus, died Friday. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. David Carl Jones and Rod Smith will be officiating. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. She was born Feb. 16, 1937 in Orange County, Calif. to William Paul Williamson and Edith Muriel Bear Williamson. In 1975 she moved to Altus from Colorado Springs and worked as a hairdresser. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Altus where she volunteered to transport people in need. She was preceded in death by her soul mate and best friend, Jim Faulkner, in March of 2001. She is survived by her daughter Shelly Dillard and husband David of Hamilton, Texas; sons Richard Laney of Altus, Tim Jones and wife Judy of Headrick and David Jones and wife Stephanie of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother Walden Routhenberger and wife Linda of Jasper, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Miller, 61, died Monday in Protection, Kan. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Protection. The Rev. Dennis Carter will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, in Coldwater, Kan. He was born Nov. 7, 1940 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Lawrence N. and Ruby L. (Cramer) Miller. He married Kay Stayton on April 4, 1999 in Altus. He was an auctioneer and a lawyer. He moved from Delco, N.C. to Protection. He attended Wichita elementary schools and graduated from Wichita West High School in 1959. He received a degree from Midland Community College In Midland, Texas and a law degree from the University of Central California in Fresno. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a fighter pilot for the U.S. Air Force. He was an ordained minister for both the American Fellowship Church of Carmel, Calif. and the World Christian Ministries of Fresno. He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge of Wichita, Kan. and was and Envoy of the Iota Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi of Wilmington, N.C. Survivors include his wife Kay Miller of Protection; his mother, Ruby L. Miller of Winnabow, N.C.; a son, Charles A. Miller of Pflugerville, Texas; two step-daughters, Norman Jean Stayton of Altus and Mary Ingram and husband, Jim of Altus; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren several aunts and uncles. Schuster Services for Margaret A. Schuster, 78, are pending at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. JUNE 13: Abernathy George Raymond Abernathy, 89, died Wednesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel; with the Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born Oct. 4, 1912 at Lakewood, N.M. to Charles Oscar and Lillie (Rodgers) Abernathy. The parents were pioneer settlers of Jackson County but moved to New Mexico for health reasons. They returned to Jackson County when he was a child. He attended and graduated from Ozark School in 1933. He farmed in the Ozark area for more than 75 years with his father and brothers, and also worked as a substitute mail carrier for 20 years. He married Tommy Loys Fewell, on April 22, 1943 in Duke and the established a home in the Ozark community. They lived there for 52 years, before moving to Altus in 1995. She died on April 11 of this year. He was a life long member of the Altus First Baptist Church where he served as secretary in the young married class for 30 years. Survivors include two sons, Dr. John Abernathy and wife, Cindy and Dr. Larry Abernathy and wife, Lynn; one daughter, Frances Abernathy and husband, Craig Sterling; six grandchildren, Larisa Weldon and husband, Russell, Christy Lyles and husband, Larry, Dr. Stacy Abernathy and husband, Jeffrey Jackson, Lyle Abernathy, Leigh Abernathy and Warren Sterling; two great-grandson, Grayson and Peyton Weldon; a brother, Charles Abernathy and wife, Mary of Altus; two sisters, Velma Abernathy and Mildred Rowlett, both of Altus; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice in memory of George Raymond Abernathy. Conger Jackie Murle Conger, 67, died Saturday at his residence at Richland, Miss. on June 8. Services will be Saturday. with Ott & Lee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was a native of Oklahoma and a resident of Rankin County, Miss. for the past 23 years. He was a Korean War Veteran and was a truck driver for Transit-Mix Trucking Company in California before becoming disabled. He was a Methodist. Harris Frankie Mae Harris, 81, died Wednesday at her home in Hollis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Community Church in Hollis. The Rev. Wilmer Cooper, the Rev. Robbie, the Rev. She was born June 12, 1921 in Tatums to Ellis Drain and Gracie Drain. She attended school in Tatums. She served in the community of Hollis from 1946 until her death. She attended Pilgrim Baptist Church in Tatums, Zion Hill Baptist Church in Hollis and the Sunset Baptist Church in Altus. She enjoyed gardening and sewing quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was known as "Big Mama" to all her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Jack Harris of Hollis; three sons, Samuel Harris and wife, Thelma of Fort Worth, Texas, O.B. Harris and wife, Earline of Fort Worth, Texas and Herbert Harris of Hollis; two daughters, Ethel Harris of Hollis and Savannah Harris of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Lillie Young, of Tatums, Vestella Williams of Wichita, Kan. and Naomi Colbert of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Lou Carl Young of Tatums, Ellis Drain of Duncan; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, one daughter, and one son. McCoy Marshall Carl McCoy, died Wednesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church with Dr. Richard Ventonis officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born March 12, 1916, in Freestone County, Texas to James Arthur and Linnie Elsie (Despain) McCoy. The family moved to Chickasha, in 1919. He received all of his schooling in the Chickasha Public School System. His ministry education came from reading and correspondence school. As a young boy, he delivered newspapers in Chickasha including The Oklahoman-Times, Oklahoma News, and Chickasha Daily Express. As a teenager, he worked three years for Western Union delivering telegrams and packages on a bicycle. He married Lucille Yoder, June 20, 1936 in Chickasha. At the age of 13 he became a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chickasha. He was active in the church, serving as an officer in the youth department, and a Sunday School teacher. For a short time he served on the church board as a deacon. He was also the music director for several years. He remained active in the Chickasha Assembly of God until his work transferred m to another community. In each community that he lived in, he found a church he could be active in. He worked for three years at the Crawford Mattress Company in Chickasha, five years with the Donut Cooperation of America and he managed food processing plants in Chickasha, Wichita Falls, Texas, New Berlin, N.Y., Frankfort, N.Y. and Lisbon, N.Y. He began his ministry traveling with evangelist George Hayse, speaking in youth services and conducting the singing for revivals. In 1943, he began a full-time ministry. pastoring an Assembly of God in Stecker. Due to a need of defense workers, he worked for 18 months at Dough Aircraft (presently, Tinker) in Oklahoma City. He lived in Chickasha and commuted daily to Oklahoma City and mid-week and Sundays to Stecker. In 1946, he was called to pastor the First Assembly of God in Altus. In 1949 he was elected to the office of District Youth Director for the Assemblies of God Youth for the state of Oklahoma. He served that office for nearly four years. While in that position, he served on the National Youth Committee in Springfield, Mo. In 1953 he returned to Altus and resumed his ministry at the First Assembly of God Church. He designed and supervised the construction of a new church building in 1954-55 at 421 W. Commerce. That building was destroyed by fire on Feb. 2, 1981. He then led the congregation in relocating the church to its present site at 1400 Falcon Road. He also designed the present building. He served on the Board of Directors of Assemblies of God in Oklahoma for 30 years, four years while State Youth Director and 26 years as Presbyter of Churches located in eight counties in southwestern Oklahoma. In addition to serving his church and state organization, he considered Jackson County his parish and had a desire to be an active part of the community. He was a member of the Altus Chamber of Commerce until his retirement. A member of both the Altus and Jackson County Ministerial Alliance, serving as an officer in each organization. he served three terms (eight years) on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Jackson County. Two of those years he was Co-Chairman of the fund drive committee. He also served three years he served as the chairman of the board. He served more than 25 years on the Jackson County Home Health Care Board and the Tri County Homemakers Advisory Council. Survivors include one son, Don McCoy and his wife, Peggy, of Plano, Texas; two granddaughters, Vicki Walker and her husband, Nolan, of Orlando, Fla., Crystal Stephan and her husband, Glenn, of Richmond, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Michael Walker, Matthew Walker, Amber Stevenson and her husband, Denny and Clinton Schmidt; one great-great-grandson, Caleb Stevenson. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. She was born March 22, 1924 at Electra, Texas to Carter Key and Jewel Estelle (Orr) Key. She married Harold Bon Schuster Sept. 10, 1942 in Mangum. He died June 2, 2000. She was life long resident of Altus and Jackson County. She had several hobbies and especially enjoyed family genealogy, fishing and traveling. She was a charter member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and a member of a First Baptist Church in Altus. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Schuster and John Schuster and his wife, Edwina, all of Altus; a sister, Ruth Copeland and her husband, Gene of Altus; four grandchildren, Donna Randolph, Beverly Caldwell, Michelle Robinson and Mandy Green and three great-grandchildren. She worked as a nurse in nursing homes and retired in 1985 from the Altus House Nursing Home. She moved to Knoxville, Tenn. in 1996 but returned to Yukon in 2001. While living in Tennessee, she was a volunteer for the Town of Farragut's Unsung Navy. Ledbetter Ocie Ledbetter, 87, longtime Jackson Cou-nty resident, died early Sunday morning at the English Village Nursing Home. She was born June 13, 1903 near Ladessa in old Greer County where her parents and grandparents had homesteaded land. She lived in Greer County all of her life and for a number of years in the Ladessa Community. She has been a resident of the Grace Living Center since 1996. They had one daughter, Mary Kay. They made their home in Blair for more than 60 years. She was a homemaker and seamstress. In her younger years she worked as a clerk for J.C. Penny, Wilson's Dry Goods and Garrett and Herron Furniture of Altus. As a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Blair, she served as a Junior Department Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School worker and she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She moved to Arizona in December of 2001 to be with her daughter and family. While in high school he was active in FFA where he received the Greenhand Award and was also a member of the State Quizbowl. He was a member of the Black Belt Club of American. He attended Great Plains Technology Center Diesel Mechanic and Air Condition program. He was a member of the Mobile Air Conditioning Service. He was pursuing a career in the air conditioning business. He recently applied to get his Airframe and Powerplant License to work on jet aircrafts at Shepard Air Force Base. He worked in all types of general labor, demolition, moving equipment and spraying yards with his father and brother. They made their homes in Gould, in Sulphur where their son Floyd attended the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, in Cordell, and in Altus where she has lived for the past 38 years. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was also involved as an interpreter for the deaf. As a life-long member of the Church of Christ, she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School and was actively involved in other areas of the church. Until her health declined, she and her husband were active in the Good Sams. Jefferies Yamasse Nicole Jefferies, 24, Accokeek, Md., died Wednesday. Mayberry Leland Wayne Maberry, 43, formerly of Altus, died June 15 at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn.. Burial was held June 18 at Montgomery County, Tenn. He was born March 31, 1959 in Altus to Carroll Gene Maberry and Karen Ann (Kline) Maberry. He was a 1977 graduate of Altus High School. He married Linda Sawyer on Aug. 17, 1979 in Athens, Texas. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1980 until 1988 and for Bell South of Tennessee since 1988. He is survived by his wife Linda of Clarksville, Tenn.; sons Adam and Aron, both of Clarksville; his father Carroll Gene Maberry of Athens; several aunts, uncles and cousins. JUNE 24: Nelson Funeral service for Louise Adams Nelson, 86, of Frederick were held this afternoon at the First Baptist Missionary Church in Frederick. Dr. Harvey Potts, Sr. officiating. Burial followed at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray-Gish Funeral Home of Frederick. She died Wednesday at a Lawton hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1915, at Oakwood, Texas, to Haywood and Anna Lee (Burns) Alford. She united with the Waymond Chapel AME Church and upon moving to Frederick, she moved her membership to St. Paul AME Church, where she was a member until her death. She was a 50th member of the J.I. Black OES Chapter 9, and held a variety of offices. At St. Paul she was a member of the Steward Board, Missionary Society, and Chairperson of the Pastor's Aid. She received the Unsung Heroine's Award from the Oklahoma Conference WMS. She was a supporter for the continuance of the survival of the Boyd Alumni Inc. She was employed by the Frederick Nursing Home, Tillman County Memorial Hospital, and later owned and operated Adams Day Care Center. She received her education at the Bethel Community School in Fairfield, Texas. She was an avid reader. She married Frank Williams, later Robert Adams and later C.L. Nelson. In addition to her three husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Dorothy Pauline Williams and Dee Earlene Williams; a son, Clarence "Packard" Williams; one step-son, Wilbert Adams and a sister, Evelyn Davis. Fuller Jospeh M. Fuller, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret) died June 11 in San Antonio, Texas. Graveside services were held June 17 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with full military honors. JUNE 25: Fowler Janice Maria Fowler, 61, died Monday at Kindrid Hospital in Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be held at a later date. She moved from Laferia, Texas to Mangum one year ago. She was affiliated with the Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister. She is survived by her children Barbara Higgenbotham of Corpus Christi, Texas, Renada Denny of Humble, Texas, James Mulkey of Houston, Texas, John Mulkey of San Antonio, Texas, Marina Taylor of Mangum and Joseph Mulkey of Katy, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. JUNE 26: Evans Lloyd I. "Jerry" Evans, Jr., longtime Ponca City resident, died June 23 at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center, Ponca City. He was 74. A Requiem Eucharist was set for today at 2 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kenneth Armstrong, rector, as celebrant, assisted by the Rev. Steven Mallory, deacon. Entombment was to follow in the Ponca City Mausoleum under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home. Jerry was born Aug. 25, 1927 in Cody, Wyo., the son of Lloyd Ivan and Mary Kathryn Cecilia Riley Evans. He attended schools in Cody, graduating from Cody High School in 1945. He was accepted in the Navy V-12 program attending Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. During his tour of duty with the Navy in the Pacific, he served with the occupation forces of Japan. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Jerry began work as an engineer with the Halliburton Company and originally came to Oklahoma at such time as he was transferred to Guymon in 1953. Subsequently, he was employed by Tri-State Construction of Oklahoma City. In April of 1960, Evans and Jim Throop co-founded the highway construction firm of Evans & Throop Construction. In Dec. of 1974, Evans purchased the outstanding stock from Throop and the company became Evans & Associates Construction Co., Inc. The parent company, Evans & Associates Enterprises, Inc. has subsidiary operations currently in Ponca City, Alva, Enid, Waukomis, Perry, Stillwater, Bartlesville, Miami, Fairland, Grove, Lawton, Altus, Snyder, Oklahoma City and Southwest City, Mo. On Oct. 7, 1961 Jerry married Patricia Jane Perdue in Ponca City. He held lifetime memberships in the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, National Rifle Association, Ponca City Rotary Club and the University of Wyoming Alumni Association. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served on the church board, as Senior Warden and as a member of the Vestry. He is survived by his wife Pat of the home; sons Bruce Michael Evans of Ponca City, Lloyd Lee Evans and his wife Laura of Ponca City; grandchildren Adam Evans of Oklahoma City, Kimberly Evans of Ponca City, Lloyd Lee Evans, Jr. of Ponca City; and a host of friends and employees. Means Murphy Means, Jr. , 49, died Monday at the Northwest Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Community Church in Hollis with the Rev. He was born Aug. 18, 1952 in Spencer to Murphy Means, Sr. and Olivia Crosby Means. He came to Hollis in 1970 and graduated from Hollis High School in 1972. He served in the United State Navy for four years. He married Jessie Bell in 1987 in Wellington, Texas. He was a farmer and highway road worker. He was a member of the Church of God in Christ. He enjoyed fishing, particularly in San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Javier Means. JUNE 27: McGavran Gerald McGavran, 55, Hobart, died Tuesday at Elkview General Hospital in Hobart. He was born Sept. 10, 1946 in Stockton, Calif., to William H. and Leah L. (Hartman) McGavran. He moved to Oklahoma in 1954. In 1999 he moved to Hobart where he made his home. He worked for Searchlight, Inc. in Hobart as a laundry attendant for several years. He enjoyed eating out with his friends, listening to music and playing with his cat. He is survived by his sister, Sandra McGavran of La Crosse, Kan. and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother. Sewell Thelma Ruth Sewell, 59, died at Mangum City Hospital in Mangum on Tuesday. Services will be held on Friday at the Church of God of Mangum at 1 p.m. The Rev. Harold Turner will officiate. She had been a resident of the Mangum area for 30 years. She moved here from Amarillo, Texas. She married Jr. Sewell on Aug. 13, 1980. He died in 1987. She worked in the home health field before retirement. She was associated with the Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Tammy Long. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, and a volunteer for the ACMI House. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Tucker and a daughter, Barbara Ryan. She was born Oct. 17, 1907 in Halletsville, Texas to Steve Augustus and Alys (Rhode) Townsend. After the death of her father, when she was three years old, she moved to Altus with her mother who married Isaac Kinney in 1910. She attended Altus Schools. She married Ralph Pryor of Blair and had one daughter, Phyllis, who died when she was ten years old. In 1950 she married Maldus Lee Baker of Altus who preceded her in death in 1966. She worked many years at Woolworth's and later at local dress shops. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Alys; daughter Phyllis; her husband, Maldus; half-brother, Paul Kinney; a step-sister, Ina Belle Hibdon; and for step-brothers, I.W. Hardisty Marsha Craig Hard-isty 61, of Arlington, Texas, died June 16 in Memorial Hospital, Arlington, Texas. She was born Nov. 5, 1940 in Lawton to Hylton and Neva Jo Craig. She grew up in Altus and was known by many in Altus and the surrounding area - especially those born in the early 1940s. She attended school in Altus and graduated from Altus High School. After memorial services, her body was buried in Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery. McGuffin Jerel D. McGuffin died Wednesday at his home . A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with pastor Brian Morrow officiating in Longmont, Colo.. Cremation will follow services. He was born Sept. 25, 1953 in Mangum to J. Orvis and Reda McGuffin. He grew up in rural Oklahoma sharing labor in the family farm. He enjoyed football, basketball, track, rodeo, camping, fishing and school and church activities. He graduated from Mangum High School in 1971. He lived and worked in Oakland, Calif for many years. He then attended Oklahoma State University where he graduated with a degree in computer science in 1984. He worked at the Bureau of Economic Geology in Austin Texas from 1984 and through 1987 when he moved to Longmont. He married Barbara Luneau in 1988. He worked as a PC support engineer as an independent contractor for a number of companies until his illness. He pursued training and certification in systems engineering. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy, and his mother Reda. He is survived by his wife Barbara and his daughter Rachel of Longmont; his father and step-mother, J. Orvis and Exa McGuffin of Mangum, a brother and sister-in-law, Jane and Bill Lafferty of Anadarko and many aunts, uncles cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont.
