Allen, 96, Hollis, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Patterson Greer Chapel in Hollis with Dr. Clem Dozer officiating. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home. Allen was born Oct. 18, 1903, in Montague, Texas, to Hugh and Roxie Ann (Kelly) Flippin. She married Robert C. Allen on Dec. 31, 1920, in Bowie, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1979. She moved to Hollis with her husband from Texas in 1927. She worked for Darby's Variety Store, Ben Franklin and Hart's Variety Stores. While working for Paul Hart, she was selected most courteous sales clerk in Hollis. She retired after 20 years of service. She was a member of Woodmen of the World and the First United Methodist Church in Hollis. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Wanda McGann in 1992; one brother, Homer Flippin and a sister, Bessie West. Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, June and Andrew Bright of Hollis and Anna Beth and Jimmy Patton of Carmichael, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Allen Bright, Sue Bright Fredericksen, James Bright, Deborah Patton Stewart, Karen Patton Zlotkowski, Pat McGann and Tim McGann; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Baucum Benton Baucum, 72, died Friday at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Boy Whitehead officiating. Burial at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 13, 1928 at Friendship to J.B. and Myrtle (Wiginton) Baucum. He married Reaga Cavness Dec. 26, 1952 in Clovis, N.M. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired educator, having taught from 1953 until he retired in 1990. He taught in the Altus, Albuquerque, Houston, Mo. in the Tucumcari, N.M., Sapulpa where he retired in 1990. He was a long time resident of Altus and Jackson County and a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where he was active in the Blast tutoring program. He also taught classes at Western Oklahoma State College. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association .and a member of National Mathematics Council. His hobbie was gardening. Survivors include his wife, Reaga Baucum, Altus; children, Kerrie and John Herring of Tipton and Erin Pedersen of Post, Texas; three brothers, Bill Baucum of San Antonio, Don Baucum of Quanah, Texas and Tom Baucum, Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters, Lahoma Baker of Oklahoma City and Virginia Smith of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Ephriam Mathis, Amy Pedersen, Eric Pedersen, and Laura Pedersen. Ballard Lewis Dale Ballard, 64, husband of Patricia Hall Ballard, died Wednesday, March2, 2000, at Mariner Healthcare East in Sumter, S.C. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ballard was born Aug. 27, 1935, in Altus, the son of Walter and Ida Grider Ballard. He was a retired Air Force captain and a Baptist. He graduated from Southwestern with a bachelor's degree in education. He also graduated from Troy University in Alabama with a master of science degree in public administration. He is survived by his wife; a brother, Al Ballard of Altus and one nephew, Britt Ballard, also of Altus. Beasley Derek Ryan Beasley, 17, Houston, Texas, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at his home. Beasley was born March 23, 1982, in Houston, to Donald and Vicki Michele (Bagwell) Beasley. He was a student who loved stuffed animals, his family, toys and mirrors. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Brown Christian Funeral Home. Boyd was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Hutchinson, Texas, to Ike and Sarah Boyd. She was raised in Altus where she was a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1949. She worked at Altus Air Force Base until her retirement. She was saved and baptized at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church and then later attended St. John Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mettie Lee Boyd and Effie Mae Hyder; two brothers, Julius Boyd and Roy Lee Boyd and one daughter, Aileen Boyd. Brownlow was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Bowman Dale E. Bowman, 67, Lawton, died Monday, March 13, 2000. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service. Bowman was born Nov. 4, 1932, in Lawton to Nola J. and Clarence E. Bowman. He attended and graduated from Cache High School. He then attended the University of Oklahoma for one year. He married Patsy Ruth Strange on Aug. 14, 1980, in Lawton. He was a warehouse manager for Southern Sales Company. Bowman served in the Air Force from 1951 until 1954, serving in the Azores Islands. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Patsy Ruth, of the home; two sons, Greg E. Bowman, Tampa, Fla. and Jeff W. Bowman, Altus; one sister, Rose M. Bowman White of Amarillo, Texas; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Megan and Christopher Bowman. Burden Anna V. Burden, 95, longtime Altus resident, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Kincannon Chapel with the Rev. Glidewell was born Jan. 15, 1905, in Bonham, Texas, to Samuel B. and Mary Francis (Simpson) Glidewell. She started school in Bonham and finished at Mangum High School. She married William E. Burden on Aug. 5, 1922, in Mangum. Together they helped farm the family land. She was a homemaker while most of the children were home, then she enjoyed a 66-year retail sales clerk career. Over the years she had worked at Pennys, Watkins, Blackwell Shoes, The Vogue, Rosemarie's, Jack's Rose, Terri's and the last 10 years at Sharon's. She retired in 1977 at the age of 72. Burden was a member of the Aldonians, the American Association of Retired Persons and the First Baptist Church in Altus for more than 60 years. Her hobbies included her church work, sewing, cooking, traveling and playing piano. She taught herself to play, she never took lessons. Burden was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1956; a son, Bill Burden, Jr.; two daughters, Mary Hurst and Jean Freeman; four sisters and seven brothers. She is survived by a son, C.T. Burden of Graham, Texas; a daughter, Norma Taylor of Altus; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Carter Services for Henry Kenneth Carter, 74, Lawton, will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Cliff Graffitt, pastor, Northside Baptist Church, Lawton, officiating. Burial will be in Warren Cemetery. He died Friday at a Lawton Hospital. He was born April 2, 1925 in Blair. He grew up in Blair, entered the U.S. Navy and was medically discharged after three months. He married Wanda Inclebarger May 6, 1944 in Altus. They moved to Altus where he worked for Conoco Oil Company for 10 years. He was then a civil service employee at Altus Air Force Base before working at Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City. He transferred to Fort Sill in 1958. The couple moved from Altus to Lawton in 1961. He retired as a civil service employee in 1986 as a plumbing supervisor. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a 32nd Degree Mason. His hobbies included traveling and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Wanda; a son and daughter-in-law, Mikel and Kathy Carter of Lawton; a brother, Buddy Carter of Fort Worth, Texas; a step-sister, Madeline Herring of Altus; three step-brothers, Buster Inzer of California, C.W. Inzer, Keene, Texas and Garland Inzer of Oklahoma City; grandson, Cody Carter and Sarah Carter of Lawton. Cooksey Frank Cooksey, 92, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Mangum City Hospital. Funeral services were held today at Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum with the Rev. John Robles officiating. Interment was at Reed Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home. Cooksey was born Feb. 15, 1908, in Spring Creek, to George Thomas and Effie (Statton) Cooksey. At the age of 12, he and his family moved to the Reed Community. He lived his lifetime there. He married Geneva Hughes on Dec. 5, 1926. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1993. He was employed by the telephone company, working there for 45 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Reed, where he has served as deacon. Cooksey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and two brothers, Ralph and Charlie Cooksey. Survivors include: his sons and their families, Claude A. Cooksey and wife Ramona, Dumas, Texas, Frank B. Cooksey, Jr. and wife Peggy of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Corbitt Noma Eleese Corbitt, Cortez, Colo., died Friday at the Vista Grande Rehab in Unit in Cortez at the age of 84. She was born Oct. 22, 1906, in Coy to Henry and Sara (Bergen) Zielke. She received her education at Coldwater. She married John K. Cornelson in Meade, Kan. and they farmed at Coldwater unit the "1930s" when they moved to Arizona. They later moved to California. The family moved to the Texline area in 1947 when they began a farming operation. Her husband died in 1971 when she moved to Truth of Consequences, N.M. She moved to Altus in 1985. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; a sister, Ann and two brothers, Elias and Sam Zielke. Survivors include a daughter, Elsie Sheets, Altus; a son, Howard E. Cornelson, Fritch, Texas; a brother, Leonard Zielke, Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She attended school at Victory while residing with her sister and brother-in-law, Altha and Earl Stout. She married J.M. Cunningham on Nov. 26, 1924, in Hollis. He preceded her in death in 1976. She lived in Hollis most of her adult life and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hollis for more than 70 years. She had been employed by Taylor's Department Store and was a substitute rural mail carrier in Hollis. Cunningham was preceded in death by one stepson, James M. Cunningham, Jr., in 1943 and a daughter-in-law, Deana Cunningham. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid at 4 p.m. under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Dobbs was born in Enid, the daughter of George H. and Myrna (Reems) Wilson. She married William (Bill) Dobbs on Nov. 11, 1961, in Enid. He preceded her in death May 23, 1999. She graduated from Enid High School and then attended William Woods College and then Oklahoma A&M. She was a longtime Altus and Jackson County resident. Dobbs was involved with the Daughter's of the American Revolution, where she served as the state chairman and at the local level, as chapter regent. She was also a member of the P.E.O., Beta Mother's Club, Clionians and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also served on the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council. Dobbs was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by one sister, Myrna Lee Richardson. Survivors include: two sons and their wives, Charles L. and Mary Dobbs, Altus and James W. and Michelle Dobbs of Oklahoma City; one brother, George Wilson of Enid and a sister, Sandy Meyers of Oklahoma City. Ellison Robert Ellison II, 86, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Mangum City Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. James Callins and the Rev. Ellison was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Dallas, to Robert and Melissia (Coker) Ellison. He lived in Shamrock, Texas, until 1989, when he moved to Mangum. He married Bertha Jones, she preceded him in death. He then married Vernita Ellison in Odessa, Texas, on Aug. 18, 1983. He worked as a custodian for El Paso Natural Gas and Bell Telephone. He also shined shoes for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and a sister, Valerie Jackson. She lived in the Altus area since 1957 moving here from Weatherford. She married Morris "Bud" Giles Nov. 13, 1980 at Vernon, Texas. He died April 17, 1998. She was a homemaker and her hobby was spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. She married Guadalupe Gonzales March 3, 1939 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1979. She was the pastor of her church from 1979 to 1992 and was also a homemaker for many years. She was a member of the Iglesia Samaria Pentecostal Church in Altus. Gresham Claude Gresham, 76, Smyrna, Tenn., and former Altus resident, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at his home. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna with Dr. Ross Maroney officiating. Burial will follow at Mapleview Cemetery. Gresham was a native of Oklahoma and the son of Ernest and Maude Overstreet Gresham. He was a member of Stones River Baptist Church and an Air Force veteran from World War II. He was a retired auto mechanic. Survivors include: his wife Joyce Gresham; two daughters, Edna Goodman, Smyrna, Tenn., and Paula Thompson, Dallas; one son, Chris Gresham, Lavergne; five grandchildren, three step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. The family will receive visitors after 5 p.m. today at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna, Tenn. Gross James F. Gross, 57, Altus, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at his home following a lengthy illness. Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Altus Air Force Base. Gross was born April 19, 1942, in Beloit, Wis., to Earl and Letha (Meade) Gross. On May 23, 1969, in Nocona, Texas, he and Carolyn McMahan were married. His career with the Air Force began in 1961, lasting through 1981, retiring as a master sergeant. After his military retirement, he began a career as a flight simulator instructor for government contract, lasting 15 years. His career ended as a flight instructor with United Airlines. Gross was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4876 and a member of the Lutheran Church of Blanchardville, Wis. Survivors include: his wife of 30 years, Carolyn; two sons, Lloyd Ray Gross and wife Tracy and Roy T. Gross; one sister, Jean Vamstad of Blanchardville, Wis.; five grandchildren, Ashley Gross, Alan Gross, Samantha Schultz, Michael Schults and Tiffany Schultz; one nephew, Darrell Vamstad; one niece, Stacey Vamstad. She was the fifth of seven children. She married Clarence Warren in Mangum in 1960. He preceded her in death in 1975. She raised a nephew, Joe "Randy" Davis and three nieces, Jewell "Peaches" Oliver, Lanessa "Nessa" Hurd and Crystal "Chris" Hurd. She was a member of The Church of the Living God and served as president of the mission until her health failed. She enjoyed cooking for her family, raising her children and gardening. James is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and one brother. Survivors include: two sisters, Etta Mae Henderson, Marietta and Donnie Mae Green of Mangum; one brother, Frank Smith, also of Mangum; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Burial will follow at the Dodson Cemetery. He was born Nov. 18, 1959 to Eugene Baily Johnston and Lillie Estelle Peden Johnston in Ardmore. He married Laura Ross on Sept. 26, 1981 in Plainview, Texas. He was a member of the National Guard and worked as a farm laborer. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Survivors include his Laura and daughter, Kaeleigh of the family home; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Debbie and Ricky Thompkins of Hollis, Dorothy Sykes and Alma Durrett both of Lubbock, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Glenda Miller of Lubbock, Texas. Interment will follow at Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Livingston was born June 29, 1918, in Eldorado to William Walter and Mary Elizabeth Robinson Helms. She married Rex Livingston on June 20, 1934, in Eldorado. He preceded her in death May 15, 1984. She had lived all her life in Eldorado until she moved to Chickasha in June of 1998. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldorado. Livingston was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and two brothers. She was born Oct. 12, 1967, in Portales, N.M., to Roy and Johnanna Wilhoit Rush. She attended Clovis Public Schools, graduating from Clovis High School in 1985. She and Randy C. McKee were married on March 15, 1986 in Clovis. She was a former Altus and Olustee resident. She attended Western Oklahoma State College, graduating in 1987. In 1998, she and her husband moved to Chattanooga were he coached the boys baseball team. In 1999, she graduated from Cameron University with a degree in computer science and was teaching computer classes at Western Oklahoma State College at the time of her illness. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga. McKee was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Lowel Wilhoit and Alpheus Rush. Survivors include: her husband Randy; two daughters, Randi Lenn McKee and Taylor Blake McKee, both of the home; her parents, Roy and Johnanna Rush, Longmont, Colo.; her maternal grandmother, Maxine Wilhoit, Portales, N.M.; her paternal grandmother, Mary Rush, also of Portales; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Tamara and Jerald Manasco, Clovis, N.M., Nikki and Mike Basart, Fort Collins, Colo. and Shawna Rush, Longmont, Colo. Murphy Cecil James Murphy, 87, longtime Elmer resident died Friday at English Village Manor Nursing Home. Burial will follow in the Elmer Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born July 6, 1913 at Noonday, Texas to Joe and Laura (Murray) Murphy. He married Sylvia Clarice Canada in 1939 in Elmer. She died in December of 1982. They made their home in Elmer since the 1940's. He worked for several farmers in Jackson County for many years. He also worked as a custodian at the Jackson County Courthouse and Altus Air Force Base. He was a longtime member of the Hess Baptist Church. Survivors include five children, Sara Jo Swint and husband, Frank of Rex, Ga., Edith Duke and husband, Kenneth of Tipton, Anita Pair and husband, Eddie, James Murphy and wife, Julie and Sandy Callins and husband, Fred all of Altus; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends. Powers Irene Ferguson Powers, 93, Kennewick, Wash., died Friday, March 17, 2000. Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. March 31, 2000, at the Rockwell Family Cemetery in Weatherford. Powers was born March 26, 1906, at her father's homestead near Avard. She was the last surviving sibling of eight brothers and sisters. The first in her family to get a college education, she taught in Oklahoma for 32 years. She married Guy Powers on Aug. 27, 1925, in Weatherford. They taught school together and had a family of four children. Preceding her in death are Phoebe Alice, age four, George Thomas, age 64, and her husband, Guy Powers, age 76. She and her husband moved to Othello, Wash., in 1964, where they purchased and operated an orchard until their retirement in 1971. They enjoyed traveling until his death in 1979. In the following years, she lived a full life. In 1996, she moved to Kennewick and lived with her daughter. She is survived by two children and their spouses, Bill and Barbara Powers, and Shirley and Joe Lucas. Also, seven grandchildren, Nancy Williams, Guy Powers, Lee Morris, Tom Powers, Greg Powers, Ed Powers and Elizabeth Powers and 16 great grandchildren, ages 17 to newborn. Entiat, Kennewick, Wash. 99336. Reeves Logan Marcus Reeves, Jr., 87, Topeka, Kan., died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at a Topeka health center. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Hope Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gable Mid Town Chapel. Reeves was born Feb. 14, 1913, at Tarrant County, Texas, near Fort Worth, the son of Logan Marcus and Maude Mildred May Reeves. His family moved to Florida in 1918, returning to Fort Worth in 1925. They then moved to Altus where he was a graduate of Headrick High School and attended Altus Junior College. Reeves came to Kansas from Altus in 1943, as manager of the Long Bell Lumber Company. He was active in his community as a member of the North Topeka Kiwanis Club and the North Topeka Merchants Association. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church. He owned and operated Ben Franklin stores in North Topeka, Highland Park and Hiwatha, Kan. After the sale of Long Bell Lumber in 1958, and the sale of his stores, he spent his time at the remaining Highland Park store until 1966. He operated three payment stations for utility bills. He was also credit manager for C.B. Karlin Furniture from 1967 until 1969 and Scott Glass Company in the early 1970s. He married Harrasetta McMillon. They later divorced and he married Roberta Hutchison Carson on July 27, 1961. She survives her husband. Other survivors include: one son, Gene Marcus Reeves, Sr., Topeka; one step daughter, Karen Carson-Morgan, Astoria, Ore., two step sons, Robert E. Carson, Topeka, and Rodney W. He entered the United States Air Force July 1, 1955 and retired as a Tech Sergeant on Aug.1, 1975. He was later employed at McPherson Ford, Jim Click Chevrolet, and Lloyd Smith's L&B Auto. He retired from the civil service in 1996. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olustee and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Headrick. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie M. Sprague was born June 28, 1919, in Russell County, Oklahoma, to Minnie and Jessie Meason. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the International Accountants Society since 1967. Tabb Juanita Ruth Tabb, 69, Altus, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Tabb was born Sept. 12, 1930, at Altus, to Walter C. and Mable Mott Chenault. She attended school in Altus. She owned and operated Shirlinta's Cafe that was located in the Franklin Hotel for several years. She worked at Jackson County Memorial Hospital as a certified nurse's aide on the obstetrics floor. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Duke. Tabb was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, W.C. Chenault. Watson Vera A. Watson, 77, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Quartz Mountain Care Center in Altus. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Vera Alice Southall was born July 20, 1922, in Blair to William Albert and Mary Etta (White) Southall. She attended school in Midway in Greer County. She married William Howard Watson on Nov. 16, 1961, in Vernon, Texas. She was a homemaker and her hobby was spending time with her children and grandchildren and working word search puzzles. She was a member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ, and served as a volunteer at the Southwest Transit, Red Cross and Head Start programs. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandson, Nicholas Snodgrass; three sisters, Clara Inzer, Effie Winters and Oleta Haynes; and three brothers, Peyton, Luke and Alva Southall. Weathers Rodney Joe Weathers, 36, Blair, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Weathers was born Jan. 16, 1964, in Vanhorn, Texas, to John Joe and Ethel Mae (Jacobs) Weathers. He attended school in Tahoka, Texas. He moved to Blair in 1982 and worked for McMaster Construction of Oklahoma City for 10 years. He was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include: his mother, Ethel, of Blair; one brother, Mike W. Weathers, also of Blair and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Memorial contributions may be made to the Navajo Cemetery. Wood Verna Lucille Wood, 94, died Saturday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services for Verna Wood will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. She was born July 23, 1905, in Dodge City, Kan. to Roy Edward and Minnie (Shelley) Wood. She lived most of her life in San Francisco and Oakland, Calif. area most of her life where she worked as an executive director for Equitable Life Assurance. After retiring in the early 1970's, she traveled extensively in Europe and studied Eastern religions. Her other hobbies included reading and studying other cultures. She was a member of Chapter CM of PEO and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two nieces, Verna Taylor of Altus and Shirley Lohse of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two nephews, Jon Shively of Ogden, Utah and Roy Wood, of Denver; three great-nephews and five great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Maynard Wood and a sister, Elma Shively. Youngblood Lucille Youngblood, 83, died this morning at Deaconess Hospital in Ayer, Mass.
